It isn’t that Kevin Hayes loses the games. It’s that he comes into the lineup when we are overburdened with injuries and the lines that had great chemistry get juggled to accommodate said injuries. People want a scapegoat because it’s easier than admitting that the roster is still a bit thin even though the team has done very well when healthy.
Agreed with changing the lines. I never understood how 1 guy gets injured so you have to juggle 3 lines? Plug Kouivonen into Rusty's place and move on. One guy gets injured and kill 3 working lines? Don't get it.

Might it be that the Penguins are more circumspect about crowding the net front because of the ludicrous goalkeeper interference shenanigans? Particularly as teams seem to be weaponising the lack of any attempt by the officials to address the issue of players being pushed onto the goalies by the goalie's own teammates.
If you give credit for blakes play helping Pittsburgh win, which I do, then at least admit Hayes does nothing to help the team win if you don’t want to blame him for helping them loose.

Hey Dan I appreciate your measured take on Hayes, but he's just not an NHL player at this point. His lack of foot speed changes the entire complexion of the lineup; IMHO we'd be better off with a quicker guy with no hands instead.

Now i can agree there may be too much hate on hayes but i will say he didnt look great against the flames and it all kinda piles up when we shuffle 2 other lines to fix one injury and the weaker parts of lines begin to stick out. My personal opinion is if they want to win.. keep the lines together as much as possible(not in order) i want the mutant line.. sid hayes raks.. kindy china novak.. and the 4th line you shouldnt touch in a billion years
I will bang this drum inccessantly. Geno should have gone back to 2nd line the very moment Rust is out. You lose production with him out and we know that 2nd lines capability from past and it could make up for that loss or balance things out. I agree with you Hayes is not the cause for this….sortve. I dont believe his style fits 3rd line and 4th line is untouchable so I believe these last two games are compounding coaching errors. Those lines were absolutely atrocious. Ville Koivunen would be better with the young 3rd line than Hayes in my opinion. But id like to see more rotating of the guys at Wilkes into the 3rd. Also Kulak really isn't working out. All this to say he upended two defenders who should still be playing right now: Graves and Clifton pair

Just because people think (including me) that Hayes is to slow for todays game don't make us uninformed or ignorant it means we have a different opinions and that is fine. That would be like me saying I don't agree therefore you are ignorant or uninformed, Hayes has become what Carter was there for a few years that's all, no harm in saying that no one is hating on him and we watch the games also we see what takes place so I guess I'm an idiot as you would say, maybe leave the insults to Madden we expect that out of him. I don’t think Rust sitting out is the reason for these two losses. The Flames game was more about Calgary smothering the neutral zone and forcing turnovers – the Pens never got their flow going. Against Boston, it was a tight game and the penalty count was wildly lopsided. When you hand one team six power plays and the other two, you’re tilting the ice.
Both games were one-goal losses. That’s just hockey. Sometimes the goalie at the other end has the better night, sometimes bounces don’t go your way. If anything, losing by one shows the team was still competitive, not collapsing because one winger was missing.
Rust is a great player – but these two results aren’t proof that his absence was the difference.
