Steelers Cleaning House of Mike Tomlin’s Coaches? | Bigger Rebuild Coming? | What About Klay Kubiak?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly considering cleaning house and moving on from all of Mike Tomlin’s assistant coaches. But is that the right move? Christopher Carter and Josh Taylor discuss why keeping back some of the key coaches could help whoever the new coaching hire is as they adapt to the new job.

Also, new coaching candidates are reportedly set to be interviewed by the Steelers, including San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak, Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, and Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero. Could Kubiak be the offensive mind the Steelers need to switch pace and consider instead of another head coach with a defensive background? Also, Chris and Josh give their picks for the divisional round of the NFL playoffs.

  1. The draft is in Pittsburgh this year who else is just as excited about that along with a new coach it just doesn't get any better 😂 Go Steelers

  2. This team needs a rebuild. There is not retooling this team. No QB. No OLine. Overpaid and mediocre Defense. No elite O players, no Elite D players.

The “Standard” has become mediocrity. Time to change that too.

  3. Sorry for so many comments but my question for the next coach is can you win us a Superbowl 😂 just like we were the first to get 6 let's be the first to get 7 😂 stair way to seven 😂 Go Steelers

  4. Buncha Ravens fans in the comments 😂😂 if any one of these people saw Tomlin on the street they'd shake his hand and say thank you, if they were real fans.

  5. If the Steelers are making a clean sweep with the coaching staff then we can expect them to part ways with some players. I see things like this, if the Steelers can trade Franco Harris to the Seattle Seahawks then they can trade Highsmith, TJ Watt , Heyward and anybody else to get the players the new coach wants and needs to carry out his plans.

  6. Yeah I would guess , I thought the movie was over when they let Brian Flores go for the guy , that yeah they just signed but wasn't Brian Flores .. defense hasn't been the same since ..

  7. I get some of the staff have made an impact but a lot them just need to go. It’s time for a reset. Let the new guy bring his dudes in. Maybe 1 or 2 like Dunbar for sure can stay but that’s about it.

  8. When you are hiring a new head coach you have to allow that coach to bring in their team whoever that may be. The New Coach may keep some of the other coaches but that new coach needs to be given the freedom to stack their team as they see fit. By the way judging about how many times the Steelers were out coached I am more than happy to see them clean house. It’s long overdue.

  9. Ain't going to lie , I thought it was time that Tomlin stepped away , I just wish it was on a better note .. winless in the playoffs since Antonio Brown live streamed from the locker room and I believe the culture hasn't been the same since .. I don't care who's the head coach as long as he's a team first coach and won't put up with any fuking nonsense .. and I wouldn't mind trying to lure Brian Flores back as the defensive coordinator at least if not giving him the opportunity once again , although some of his effectiveness might be robbed from him because that's what people bitched about , his harsh and abrasive style .. today's fragile athletes can't take the drill sergeant like mentality in the locker room but if any team was to give him the second opportunity , it would be the Steelers ..

  10. Leader of men? Yes. But they need actually good coordinators to back him up. Early on tomlin had great caliber coordinators that has lacked for a while.

  11. If they had better coaches they be in the playoffs sometimes change is good. Especially the offensive line coach he's just terrible he should not even have a job as a high school coach he could even make it as a lineman in the NFL or the CFL.

  12. There are techniques and philosophies on playing positions. These need to match the systems and philosophies of new coach.
And the new guys will have some of his 'guys' and that may just mean some ppl will leave no matter what. Will be interesting.

  13. Chris, love you brother, but you gotta stop doing these live ad reads while your guest just sits there awkwardly staring into the camera. Why don't you pre-record or at least drop the guest camera during reads?

  14. Enjoy the show but your lighting looks like a horror movie it's kind of distracting, have you considered some upgrades?

  15. no teams ever just like "trade everyone" to get picks. thats just not how the nfl works. this isnt baseball.

the steelers are a lot closer to being "a good team that needs a little more talent, and some good modern coaching" than it is to some bottom of the barrel trash.

they make the right hires and a few good moves this offseason, they'll be right there again.

  16. Continued use of Benton as a nose to secure the middle against the run was a mistake every time. He's good but not to hold the middle.

  17. Why is this a show topic? New regimes bring in their own staff. That’s the way it is and should be done. You made up an angle for views and it’s a flop.

  18. the new coach is able to bring in his staff but coach t has only been allowed mediocre coaches since lebeau and ariens. they are the cheapest organization in the league. they had flores in house in wouldn't off him money to stay. when top coordinators are available every year they bring in the cheapest option. the same with player personnel. never the best option but the cheapest

  19. I agree with what Josh is saying to an extent, but I disagree with his perspective on leadership 100% and I’m going to tell you why.
For one, he’s only describing one style of leadership: Servant leadership, which focuses on individual growth, development and well-being that requires an elite level of interpersonal expertise to relate to each player individually.
    The classic “father-figure” leader.
Hence the reactions from the players.

Not all “leaders of men” focus vasts amounts energy on individual needs. They will when it’s necessary, but if the primary goal is to win a championship then that aspect has to be tempered within the scope of what’s in the best interests of the team.

I’ll give you an example: When Broderick Jones was drafted.
How did his selection benefit the team?
Short answer: it didn’t. A conundrum was created at the LT position for seemingly no reason at all.

Last two things. Any organization has to have a shared vision. A goal or several. How a head coach or manager cultivates the buy-in from personnel comes in many different forms, but first and foremost, it comes from success. In this specific situation; a track record.
Organizations are also cyclical. Not all leaders can manage at every moment of the cycle. You sometimes need different leaders at different phases.
In this specific situation, I think we’re at the “Noll Phase”.
The team doesn’t need a head coach that’s going to come in and rub shoulders and tell them everything is ok.
They need someone to come in to conduct the business of re-establishing a winning culture. Business-minded first, interpersonal relationships second.
Or do both, but there’s a fine line between coddling and developing.
People who excel in leadership positions make just as many enemies as they do friends, if not more—depending on how successful they become.

Lastly, I don’t post this lightly. After serving over 2 decades in the U.S. Army in every enlisted leadership position overseeing groups of 5 to 250, I know what right looks, talks, sounds and walks like, more than most.

  20. The O line was terrible again. I don't know why you keep praising them Chris. The center looks good. Both tackles underachieved being first round picks. The right guard has potential.

  21. I hope that Danny Smith comes back, he’s a great special teams coach. He needs to stay employed to help fund his chewing gum habit. 😂

  22. All you folks wanting to clean house….prepare yourselves for a 5 year run to get it to where we are today.

  23. Too get a very good coach you have to let him have his say re: his coaches & players. It's his team now

  24. There's a debate on keeping position coaches from a team that hasn't won a playoff game in 9yrs?? Yeesh

  25. Re the o-line….perhaps you can get Munchak back or an equivalent and get even better? If the HC would have those ties ? So change isn't necessarily bad if you can upgrade.

  26. Haha, so apparently a lot of you brainiacs haven't been paying attention to Art II's MO. He literally said it the other day in plain language that you would thing you geniuses would understand, yet here we are. He said that he doesn't believe in rebuilds, so y'all's wet dream of trading someone like Tj seems more like a pipedream than reality. Most likely Tj will play out his contract, and I'd be willing to bet that Art and Khan will address that specifically during these interviews. Do I know that for certain? Obviously not. But, it's clear to anyone with a brain that it's been Art II all along who is clearly satisfied with keeping the status quo as much as possible. So, while I am also hoping for a complete rebuild, the way that Art II has been operating since taking over from his dad, combined with his literal words at his press conference suggest that isn't going to happen, regardless of all the bitching and moaning from this dense and spoiled fanbase. 😁
