The 2005-06 Buffalo Sabres are the most BELOVED team in franchise history

The 2005-06 Buffalo Sabres are the most BELOVED team in franchise history

The Buffalo Sabres are hosting 05-06 reunion night celebrating what Sneaky Joe calls the most BELOVED team in Buffalo Sabres history. We head down memory lane remembering Brain Campbell’s hit on RJ Umberger, Danny Briere’s double OT winner vs Philadelphia, Tim Connolly’s heroics against the Senators in Game 1, and plenty of other amazing memories. If this Sabres team could steal one player from that team, who should it be? Ryan Miller might end up being the most popular answer.

Plus, the Sabres get a 5-2 win over the Flyers, despite only generating 14 shots on goal. Was it a great effort from the Sabres despite so few shots? A few hit posts and a low event game overall point to a good game, just a unique one. Mattias Samuelsson stays red-hot offensively and OH LOOK! The Sabres fixed the powerplay! Rasmus Dahlin leads the way with two goals on the man advantage. Finally, a preview of the matchup with the Montreal Canadiens, which is enormous in the standings.

  1. Those 5v5 SOG are going to bite them in the ass. You can't keep getting outshot game after game and win consistently. I totally expect the Sabres "A" game tonight. If not Montreal rolls.

  2. Not only was that time peak sabres hockey but it was also the last years of peak society in America before social media ruined everything 😅

  3. I swear that the hit on Umberger was such a massive hit, that it turn his name into a Verb! I was on my way home from playing a Senior game at Holiday and I swear I could feel that hit through the radio!

Anytime after that when someone received a crushing hit, the popular reaction became, “Dude just got Umbergered”!

  4. I think it was Roy that scored the second to last tying goal Game 1 against the Sens in 06.

  5. UPL is really looking like pushing Ellis out if they are moving forward to 2 goalies. I don't see them letting go of Lyon (he is by far their most consistent guy) and UPL is good but we still all are biting our tongues every game he plays waiting for the one where he can't save the big one. He does still get tunnel vision on the player with the puck, thats why he had to take that penalty last night. Norris was crosschecked in the ribs by Seeler, thats why he swung his stick at him, he hit the lower rib cage from the look of it. He is day to day. Kesselring really has to step up. He is not becoming the guy I hoped, but he is also injury ridden. I"m gonna be watching for the intreviews of the 05/06 alum.

  6. Keys to the W. Stay out of the box. PP for the Habs #11 @22% . Continue our PP with Dahlin creating room & ripping the puck
