Is it really over for Brendan Gallagher?

Brendan Gallagher has just 3 points in his last 15 games — and with injured players like Kirby Dach, Jake Evans, and Patrik Laine expected back soon, many fans are asking a tough question: is there still a spot for Gallagher in the Canadiens lineup?

In this video, I break down why it’s far too early to write him off.

With Phillip Danault back in Montreal, Gallagher finally has a familiar, responsible two-way center to play with. Whether it’s giving that duo more time, experimenting with Laine as the shooter, or even trying Dach in that role, there are realistic paths for Gallagher to remain effective — even if his role looks different than it did years ago.

This isn’t about nostalgia.
It’s about fit, structure, and context.

Don’t count Brendan Gallagher out just yet.

  1. Gallagher bring the perfect team synergy in and off the ice in a matter that is pretty rare in the league..he ain't that selfish kind wich so many are

  2. Laine could work if he learned to drive the net. And just try. At least he doesn’t look like he’s ever trying. I really want to root for the guy, but he’s gotta give you a reason to root for him besides his shot on the PP

  3. Line 1
    Caufield – Suzuki – Texier
    Line 2
    Slaf – Kapanen – Demidov
    Line 3
    Dach – Danault – Newhook
    Line 4
    Blais/Bolduc – Evans – Anderson
Bye Gally / Veleno / Laine unless he scores a lot again

  4. Gallagher is going to be an asset in the post season. This guy has the potential to turn into Sam Bennett, a true depth player. If and when the habs gets hit with another injury, i have no doubt he can pull his weight. Oh and you know who else had like 15 games with 3 points this season? Sam Bennet.

  5. Gallyhas unquestionable heart and can still put points given the opportunity but he needs to be 4th line when everyone is healthy and occasional rest days , you can see certain shifts his body just can’t keep up but the smarts and will is there.
And I’m thinking he is bringing strong leadership in locker room – adding Danault sure helps , makes a lot of sense with Gally , he needs someone else bringing into the zone and a setup man

he can be our smaller Holmstrom , park in front of net , causing trouble , tip in , rebound chaser

Laine and Gally … not sure about that – Dach Danault Gally I could see work

    Evans Bolduc Anderson

    Suzuki Caufield Texier
    Kap Slaf Demidov
(Seems like that’s the top 6)
    Danault – Gally – Dach
    Evans – Bolduc – Anderson
(Bottom 6 with Laine , Veleno rotating in for health and rest)

    Gally a warrior!

  6. Great analysis and a nice honest breakdown of the current roster! In my eyes, Gally should retire a Hab, he's the heart and soul of the team. I still treasure my autographed photo received with my subscription to Les Canadiens magazine, from back in 2014

  7. Habs depth chart has simply passed Gallys contributions. Ideal world bottom 6 is Danualt, Newhook, and Anderson … Evans, liane, and bolduc. Gallery is the odd man out on the depth chart… him and Velano

  8. I 1000% would take Gallegher over Laine every single day of the week. Attitude and chemistry are really really important.

  9. People expecting numbers from the bottom 6… you want 8 GF a game? The way S1 and S2 are producing, with the PP ebb and flow, Habs are scoring, not a problem.

Gally’s contributions are experience and intangibles. And he ain’t hurting the team with 4th line minutes. He’s in. When Dach comes back, he’ll take PP2 and that’s fine.

  10. How about a E.R. line … Laine – Evans – Dach as 3rd line
    4th Gallagher – Danault – Anderson.
    3rd and 4th are interchangeable.

Line 2 the kids line. Slaf – Kappy – Demi

Line 1 Caufield – Suzuki – (swap between Texier and Bolduc ) give them heck of an internal competition to the 1st line. And not worried about the others.

Means Veleno and Blais out. Who else am i forgetting here. If Laine doesn't click quickly. Alternate Blais and Veleno according to their performances and will to perform.

I don't know if i make any sense at all.

  11. It’s been said that this season is extremely brutal this year trying to fit the Olympics in . They are asking too much of the players and people are getting injured as a result. Players like Gally would most certainly feel it. I absolutely love this guy because he works so hard, I don’t ever want him wearing another team’s jersey. ❤

  12. The sad truth about Gally’s future is that due to the youngsters getting better , him being slow on a team that plays a system that requires speed , the new guys management brought in , injured guys coming back soon along with his 6.5 a year cap hit , his time and use for the habs is coming to an end .
That’s the cruel nature of pro sports , guys grow old and become obsolete .

I Hope management can set something up so that he ends up on another canadian team out west where he can ride out the rest of his contract close to his family until he retires after next season .

Once him and Laine are gone , thats 14 million less off the salary cap . Plenty of space to lock down Demidov for long term and keep Danault .
Dach’s contract is also ending so they need that space if they decide to keep him on .

I like Gally but it’s becoming painfully obvious he can’t stay in the line up for much longer and you can’t keep a guy on out of nostalgia and off ice value .

  13. Brendan Gallagher has not looked good out there . He is always chasing the game . Always a step behind . Its frustrating but it is what it is

  14. Gallagher still an important part of the team. He is the only one who does what he does! Cory Perry is getting a few goals but…he’s doing what keeps him playing, in front of the net.

  15. Think you were unlucky to release this right before the stinker of a performance he just dropped against the red wings

  16. I know I been on the Gally has to go train. I really want him staying in the organization. He was the heart and soul in the dark times. He always has my love for that. He just is getting too old and needs to teach. I fukken hate saying it, but that is where he has to be.

  17. Laine…I don't have faith in his faith. I would rather trade him for a younger hungrier player. Wyatt from Dallas for Laine and Dach and a top pick.

Geesh I don't feel good about myself anymore, but how many more chances can we afford to give Kirby when we have Evans and Newhook?

Killing me. It's killing me. Dobes or Sammy? Fowler should be sent back down before we wreck him.

Aaahhhhhhh! Makes ya nuts thinking about it.

Standing by Florian. That kid just has it. He is better and wants to show it, and I need another guy that CAN be an animal when Josh and Arber can not.

One of these days Tom Wilson is gonna get Cole, and he will have to know that when he does, he HAS to pay that price.

  18. You want someone in front of net, Gallagher, you want someone to annoy their defence Gallagher and you want someone to give 100% Gallagher. We need guys like him on the team. All to often we see the forwards looking for the fancy goals and not taking the shot, Gallagher in front of net gives them a reason to shoot. He is not done yet.

  19. If other players are playing better gally has to sit . Veleno and blais have outplayed gally significantly lately . Laine i dont think has a place in the lineup , dach i think will start on the 3rd line but will be given a shot on thec1st line at wing . I honestly think bulduc gets traded as he still has value , being young and has scored some goals this year , but overall just hasn't fit on any line in Montreal.

  20. Gallagher gives it his all every single night, that guy is always working hard and putting pucks on the net when he can. He may not be producing the way we'd like for him to but its worth mentioning that he is a solid hand defensively for us. I bet he also provides a presence those young kids need in the locker room. We would miss him if he was no longer on the roster, it would be felt in more ways than one. I personally hope he stays on the team for as long as he is able to and I'd love to see him take a sweetheart deal when his current one expires, I want that man to retire a Hab.
