This event … 😢 brings a tear to my 52 year old eyes. FRANZ KLAMMER was my hero. I lived in french alps 95' when Luc Alphond won…i cant remenber the party !!
'Tis the Hahenkamm, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway & Talladega Superspeedway of alpine skiing in Kitzbühel. This is an inarguable challenge to those wanting to conquer it big time.
I went to the rennen when I was 23, I am now 50, but remember it like it was yesterday. We walked upto just behind the last mound before the finish.
If a skiër came down, you first heard the crowd cheering, and cow bells and all that. But then you could hear the skiër come closer, the noise of the air around him, the clattering of the ski's on the icy slope, getting louder, swelling louder and louder, sssssSSSSSSSGGGGGGGHHHH… And then 2-3 seconds of absolute silence, as the skiër flies 20, 30, 40 metres through the air; whilst I'm trying to get a glimps of the skiër flying through the air, before landing with a loud SLAP!!!! Then crossing the finish line another second or so later and the crowd exploding into even more noise, as one of their fellow countrymen sets a new fastest time.
One of THE most impressive things I have ever seen; a human hurtling himself down an icy mountain going over 120kmph, it was insane! Actually, I think it were about 50 or so. I think Gunther Mader won that one. But it was awesome!

Two words: Todd Brooker. <shudder>
YES! Real Champ.
Imagine doing it without the blue lines, like they did it in the old days. Why is this not cheating?
