With $9M in cap savings, Harris & Blitzer can pocket it just like they likely do with the LTIR money. I doubt Fitz is looking to do anything meaningful, and ownership would be cool with that, because less moves means more 💰 for them.
As for Fitz, he's absolutely bulletproof. We're stuck with this setup for many more seasons unfortunately.
Fitz's return for Hamilton will be underwhelming of course.

I do not understand why the “what a mess” comment has been thrown out because of this…this is basic business in the hockey world. When players aren’t playing up to their standards and they need to be moved then they need to be moved. Does it suck? Sure. But everyone was PINING to get Hamilton off this roster. What’s the difference now? Completely crazy to say this is a mess. Completely.
Shame about MacEwan – I really liked him – that's the kind of player we need. Let's see if Fitz can actually get a Dougie trade done, I'll believe it when I see it. Jets then Wild next ☹ I wanna be positive, but it's super hard right now. Let's Go Devils 😈🏒
Pure fantasy now.. but if I was an NHL player 🙃 I would totally sign for San Jose – that Celebrini kid is gonna be a top 10 player in the league, maybe even top 5 eventually – I honestly think he's that good. They've got a huge, young stud goalie, you can turn up to the rink in flip flops etc. I'd be all over it.
Something tells me Dougie goes to Toronto at 50% with the other 50% going to a broker both teams pay a second round pick to the broker

Regarding retentions – you can retain on 3 players at once, Devils are retaining on 0 currently. I'm pretty sure we were retaining on the Trent Frederic trade from BOS to EDM, buts that's done now.
I know you can’t stand Fitz, but he is a shrewd GM in some ways as you stated. It looks like he tried to make the Dougie move last June and Dougie shot it down. This probably pissed off the Hughes bros which is why there is bad feelings in the locker room. Hamilton probably is not putting in his all either because in his mind a playing career is short and he would like a shot at the cup for a team that wants him. The team I am sure he wants is the Flyers maybe even Carolina again. Locker rooms can change in a heartbeat and that is why Quinn is still in play until he signs long term. Let’s go Devils and Fitz!!! 🤪 lol
Dougie was already defensively iffy. If he isnt going to put up points he's literally a pylon. A 6 foot 6 traffic cone.
Im guessing he ends up in Vegas for a 3rd or 4th line center.
I think youre right that something's not right in the room. But I still dont think it was the Quinn thing.
I think expectations + losing = bad vibes in the room. They start to cast blame, they stop listening to the coach, etc. That kind of shit can snowball really fast.
I do agree Fitz has a history of sitting on his hands and maybe the players are irritated by it by now, so the Quinn thing on top of everything else made it worse. But there was already an issue.
Dont worry ace. The rangers got spanked by boston. They had 2 players( ex devil pavel zacha) and another got 2 hat tricks. Score was 2- 10 so the devils dont have the worse record in terms of goals against in a game. Also the bruins havent got that many goals in a game since 1988.
Dumping Dougie is achievement by itself . Many say “dump Palat next” . I say “dump Marky next” . With our goaltending situation we can’t talk any contention . Sorry , Ace , I don’t expect any significant improvements from Marky due to his age . His reflexes are slow , especially on glove side , positioning is bad , lateral movement is terrible and recently he developed a new trend : shooting pucks into teammates . I am not a fan of Palat whatsoever but at least he does some dirty work unnoticed by fans but appreciated by teammates .

That being said, Ace…I knew something was DEFINITELY going on in the locker room. I have heard people say Dougie is a head case. When there is a lot of drama like that in the locker room, sometimes the other guys protest. Maybe that drama is why we have been playing like absolute crap. After the 9-0 loss, Matt Barzal even said "Lets be honest, that is NOT the NJ Devils that played last night."
Maybe when Dougie finally gone, this team will revert back to the team that went on that 8 game heater. I am not holding my breath, but we can dream, can't we?
We need to give away a pair of 2nd rounders to ensure we don’t retain salary. How this trade is handled will dictate our next 3 years. We need the full 9 million.
I am glad to finally hear Fitz say it's a business with regards to making decisions that players/coaches might not like. He kept Blackwood, Ruff, Bastian, on the team way too long and gave an interview where he said (paraphrasing) You have to consider the human element when making those decisions.
We will see if he means it or not, but at least he is saying it now.
Hamilton may be forced to retire the way he has been playing. When the other GMs see Fitz number come up on the caller id, they send it straight to voice mail 😀 Oh boy, just beat the Thrashers…….

Didn’t we all see this coming from a mile away?! I predicted this EXACT scenario in October. For us to have had faith in Fitz would be insanity. I predicted Hamilton would check out because he was asked to go somewhere outside the list. Then I predicted Fitz wouldn’t have the balls to “lose a trade,” I said he should have sent Dougie, a 1st, 2nd & retain 1.5 million to just GET IT DONE. I knew without this, we would make ZERO MOVES.
i wish i was here when this was live, if you watch jack on the bench he ALWAYS sits on the ends. he never slides down for his shift like everyone else. i noticed it during their first isles game this season. keep an eye out for it youll see it.
It is sad when you think about it though. Dougie was a big part of this core for a few years and fit in really well. I think he will go to another team and start playing really well.
Fitz is fully at fault. Going into a season where the locker room KNOWS someone needs to be traded to make the cap work. They all felt uncertain, it’s natural when the GM puts them in that kind of position.
