Which Bruins Actually Make Sense to Trade This Season

Which Bruins Actually Make Sense to Trade This Season

Today, I want to take a deeper, more measured look at Dominic Tiano’s mid-season Bruins trade board because who doesn’t like trade talk? What does it actually say about where the Boston Bruins organization is right now?

  1. Zacha could get a big haul would look at this..he is cheap now but his next deal will be much bigger.

  2. Great take, Court.

Far, far too many fans seem to believe that their personal dissatisfaction for any individual player is a valid reason to have that player traded (regardless of that player’s contract, value, age, or metrics). I like that you’re giving those fans an opportunity and gentle nudge to evaluate potential trade scenarios with greater sobriety.

  3. I agree with Mickrac 10. Lohrei is expendable but I'm not sure what we could get in return. Korpisalo
on the other hand should be expendable regardless of what we might get for him! Aside from his 'flash in the pan' moments he recently has had I think it's time to move on.

  4. Court, I think the word you wanted was “acclimate”. Acclimatize got you two minutes for grammatical roughing.

  5. I love how objective you are when it comes to discussing trade pieces ahead of the deadline. You keep the emotion out of it, which leads to better analysis, in my opinion. Curious of your thoughts when it comes to what deals could look like, and whether lysell/lohrei make their way into any of the deals. Keep up the great work court!

  6. I would look at all UFA currently on the team as trade potential, I would like to add to the prospect/picks pool, and woukd like to keep Zacha, alot of noise around him….

  7. I noticed you didn't mention Kuraly. Is it because of his contract, his play, or just not an attractive trade piece?

  8. My fear with this team and organization is that they are going to try to make a run. We are so streaky and if have one of our 6-8 win streaks right before the deadline we could go into buyer mode which I don’t agree with. If there are guys who we are going to trade I would like to get out ahead of things and do the trades early. Seeing the talent at the top end of this draft I would hate to get mired in the bottom of the lottery.

  9. loving that I found your show! I too love Dom's twitter and his Salary Cap weekly is a real treat. I'm 53yo lifelong Gallery Gawd, I grew up in the Old Gahhden Balcony. I feel that my connection to the State of the League is really founded in playing EA's NHL Hockey year-after-year. My first was NHLPA '93 on Sega Genesis. Yet I stopped playing all the time in my mid-30s. Still went to games, watched on TV, bought jerseys, et al. But the connection to knowing every player on every team. Getting The Hockey News every week and making every minor trade before the days on the online play and roster updates. So this year, I decided to start paying that level of attention again. So it's like a whole new world all over again, man. All the young players, my ear hears the word "elite" and "generational" all the time now and I feel those are perhaps baked into Fantasy League Culture and Terminology. But the players are great these days. I'm loving it. It's an interesting year too being in the Atlantic Division. It's such a logjam and this is all going to pan out in late-March! Keep it going, Court and congrats on 5K! I busted @$$ to get to 1K but growing your channel is a fulfilling thing. The proof pf the pudding is on the plate. Cheers!

  10. I hate trade talk I'm emotionally upset. I'm going to try and watch your video with an open mind. Idk why but I don't want to trade any of these guys.

  11. Agree with moving any of the names mentioned. If Im Sweeney, I'd test the value of McAvoy on the market, if a contender might provide multiple young, talented assets (Hughes deal) with upside, I'd consider moving him.

  12. You know me id trade my mom if helps team she understand haha sorry mom .you all have great week

  13. Solid take, as always. Tiano's article makes obvious sense. I think Peeke and Arvi will move. Casey, too, if that contract doesn't end up being an anchor, and the deal is right. I wonder if you think the Bruins' sneaky good signing of Aspirot makes Lohrei (and his 3.2m/per season contract) available as a "sweetener" in a potential package deal ? With another year of control with Zacha, I agree, he only moves if someone blows your socks off, otherwise, hang on to him, for now. With this year's bunched standings, I think teams are desperate, and both Peeke and Arvi could land us 2nd rounders.

  14. The difficult thing with moving Zacha is that that caliber of player has not been available in free agency the last few years, so extending players under contract (even if it requires overpaying) is increasingly becoming THE path to building out the top 6. He's 28, plays PP1 and PK, is reliable for 20 goals and 50 points, and is good friends with the franchise star… We all love the return for Carlo, but it also created a hole that has been a glaring weak point for the Bruins this year. Do we really want to create another one of those headaches? Is the team ready to commit to Hagens/Minten/Lindholm down the middle, with zero depth behind them?

  15. With how tight the standings are, and how almost every team seems competitive for at least a wildcard spot (especially in the east), I get the feeling that it’s definitely going to be a sellers market this year. You probably can get a Carlo-esque return for Zacha pretty easily, just a matter of who you’re sending him to.

  16. Excellent take. I like all the guys you mentioned (except Korpi) but if moving them makes the Bruins future brighter then it should be done.

  17. I know people will hate this, but… if there is a good offer on Hampus I think you take it.

  18. Congratulations on the 5000! Great job. This is probably an unpopular opinion, but is it just me, but I’d even consider moving on from Swayman. Since his contract, he isn’t the 8 million dollar goalie that we were expecting. 2.88ga with a .903 is ugh for a 8 million dollar goalie and I understand it’s not all Swaymans fault. Would you consider a first and second round pick with a goalie for Swayman at trade deadline? Keeping Korpi. If the Bruins keeps winning, that Toronto pick is looking worse and worse, and honestly I feel if bruins free up some cap and this season since goes south, which I have a feeling it’s going to, would those moves be more beneficial in the long term?

  19. It's hard to see where this is going this season. Very streaky team.
I think Don will be active on the phone(I think he already is) to keep a pulse on the market. It's increasingly looking like its a sellers market this TDL and its another perfect opportunity for Don to get some great deals like he did last year. Every one of his TDL moves was praised and keeps getting better. I dont think he moves players to move them, he will sit pat if he does not get what he wants. But if he is offered 1st rounders and prospects for players/packages, then I see him pulling the trigger. No big roster losses outside of what you discussed, but we also have a lot of Providence players at the hight of their value with no obvious path to a future with this team. Don has the chips and the market on his side, it would be hard to not see him make some shrewd moves in the next 6 weeks.

  20. We are one year into a rebuild/retool..keep Zacha..if you can get picks for the others do it..Bruins future is a year or two away..we have promising prospects..lets get a few more in the pipeline.

  21. You need to get off at the fantasy land stop they need their village idiot back

  22. Aww, I know those red "For Sale" signs hanging off dudes are hilarious but I try to root for all the Bruins players so seeing them make me feel a little sad too, haha. Especially when I saw one hanging off poor Zacha last week. 😂 Glad he got the hat trick to make decisions harder for the B's, but even then only like 10 people threw hats because they didn't know he'd scored that end-of-intermission goal. Typical of how the fans just don't notice in general everything he does and give him the credit he deserves, lol.

  23. All very interesting stuff. I always love your content on my favourite team. Keep doing your thing. We recently had a snowstorm here in the UK called Storm Goretti. How's your weather over there?

  24. Trade Peeke, Ardvinssion and Middlestadt for younger players or picks……build for the future, the B's already have a strong group of younger players.

  25. If Peeke is willing to sign for 2-3 years at at $3.5M or under, I think we should keep him, he's a solid 3rd pairing on the right side and can flex up to 2nd pair and be serviceable. He's also only 27, so he's still young. I'd prefer him over Lohrei at this point. Ardvisson is clogging up the middle 6, moving him makes a ton of sense so we can use some of our internal options. Mittlestat much the same as Ardvisson, he's a nice chip but he's not part of the future so we should move him for some picks and give the time to prospects. If they sign Hagen they're going to need middle 6 minutes for him at the end of the year and God willing the playoffs. Let's hope Korpi plays lights out for a few weeks and we can actually move him. Plenty of depth at goalie and Svedebeck is going to need a contract and minutes after the college season ends. Can't move picks for rentals, even if we are in the playoffs, we shouldn't be moving draftable assets unless it's for someone with term. Zacha shouldn't be moved unless it's a blow me away offer, we still have him for next season and probably should consider extending him as a middle 6 winger after next year. If he continues to perform, which I think he will, he'll be worth a boatload in 3-4 years if we need to free up space for younger prospects making an impact.

  26. Signing after the NCAA season (i.e. Boija & Holt). Make some room for the prospects and signings. Keep Zacka, as he is a great find. We know what we have, instead of trying to chase players with his qualities (costly)…

  27. I really like the max effort play style of this team. It is too bad they are not good enough to compete for a cup. Most of the guys underperforming their contracts are trade protected and will be for some time. That has been my biggest issue with the free agent signings the last year or two. If they don't work out or perform up to the pay, it is hard to get rid of them and we have some fat on this team. They should trade what they can I guess but they aren't getting rid of the dead weight any time soon.

  28. Congrats on 5k. You deserve loads more. I'm sure the numbers will keep piling up. I agree with everything you said in this particular video. I just read the comment where someone wants to trade Swayman. With respect to that commenter i think that is loony talk. Their future relies on Swayman imo.

Keep up the great work. The huge numbers will come. You're so good at this.

  29. Great report. I respect and appreciate the objective information and insight.
    Much ❤ from Nova Scotia
    LETS GO BRUINS 🫡

  30. Congrats on 5000!!! Great content, and I love hearing you with Evan on Bruins beat. I have a small Hockey podcast (Hockey &… Podcast), so I know the struggle to be heard. I agree with your trade board. Trade Arvidson and Peeke. Maybe trade Zacha and some young talent for a big player or a deal that locks down a future area. Question, with Korp playing very well in last couple, if he shows he is improving in net from the beginning of the season, would a team look at him? Keep up the great content! GO B's!!!!!!

  31. The ideal trade scenario is mutual benefit. Beyond the obvious target of trading to improve the team's ceiling, the secondary option is a trade to increase cap space to enable the possibility of improving the team's ceiling at some point in the future.
I was vexed when Boston signed so many mid to bottom six forwards. But perhaps the Bruins will have a chance to win trades at the deadline, shipping assets above their street value to teams in desperate need.

  32. I'm thinking Morgan Geekie… fantastic value but is being bounced around afaik, 3rd line, 1st line… PP sniper… I love him, but he seems and awkward fit on the team imo.

  33. B's headed back to playoffs if D stays healthy. Last slump coincided with Aspy's injury absence, along with Joki's.

  34. I left a comment but it didn't stay here because there was an NHL link included sending you to the NHL website under Joonas korpisalo stats

His profile photo has been replaced?
With some sort of a sketch?
    Or Avatar?

I know his photo was there.
    Now it's not?
    Does that mean anything?

Is there something we should know?

Or is that just another snarky goalie?

  35. With Korpisalo. I think moving him back to Ottawa would be a great move for a bag of pucks. with Ulmark out and no word on if or when for a return they need a goalie.
