When I first saw the short about the statement, I was carving the dude that posted it and wanting legal accountability for stuff like this. While I still want the law to catch up to bad internet behavior like that, the Sens making this blow up with an emotional response doesn't help anything at all. The best way to handle this situation is going through the proper channels to ensure the person responsible for it is dealt with if you feel it's serious enough, not post a statement about it only a few hours later to convince some of your players to want a trade out of town.
How long has Canada had the internet for? WTF is wrong with the Sens – Barbara Streisand effect anyone? Personally I hadn't seen the Tweet, nor had I heard of it. I then of course went and looked, and now I know the rumours. Ottawa are dummies.
The Corey Perry Chicago rumours going on forever and spirally out of control because they didn't address it may have figured in the Sens deciding to address this situation.
Ditto…clueless about rumours until press release….lol But who leaves a team when he is needed the most..where there is smoke…there is fire!! Ulmarks days in Ottawa are over!!
The focus is less on the Team now & more on what's going on in the dressing room = dysfunction …a poor recipe to success!!
Id have to disagree. I think Ottawa did right by sending out a message. This is like the Bedard/Perry rumors in Chicago. It got too big and needed to be addressed.
It has to be hard to ignore certain rumors and comments, but you have to do it. I'm in SJ, but I have been following the Senators for 30+ years. I want to hear some positive stories about Ottawa. Anything.

As a Dallas native, I understand uniquely the effect that an overzealous and ridiculously unqualified owner can do to torpedo your team. That statement COULDN'T have come from ANYONE BUT the owner, because nobody who works for him would DARE put out such an asinine, boneheaded statement. I'm not remotely a fan of Ottawa, but I can't help but feel bad for every single player, every single person tied to the Senators system that has to deal with the toxicity of such a shithead owner.
Ullmark will win a cup with Edmonton. Ullmark had a sv% above .905 for his entire career until he went to Ottawa. It would not surprise me if he wants to be traded. He is a good goalie playing for a crappy team. Current sv % .881.
Same franchise that went bonkers over total speculation that the Rangers were interested in trading for Brady Tkachuk. Ridiculous statement was put out then too.
I don't think they released the statement for the fans — they released it for the players and their families. If the team knew about that statement, there's zero doubt the wives and other families around the league knew, and you can imagine the amount of messages they received within that day or two. It's easy for us to say "Oh don't bring more attention to it," but if it's already at a fever pitch among the players and their significant others, the team had to say something.

Keep in mind a) There are thousands of rumors and anonymous Twitter accounts. b) The Senators chose to address this one specifically. c) The media is promoting this one specifically.

Pretty sure Stutzle and Tkachuk both said that they appreciated Staois releasing that statement. Context is important here. The sens have a history of having an owner who didn’t stand behind them, and also a history of locker room drama between players and their significant others. I can understand why they would want to shut this down asap.
If you guys are unaware/uneducated about other fanbases, you should just stick to Leafs talk where you can convince people you might actually know what you’re talking about

If it's fake, it's fake. If it's real, is it really surprising? You've got 20-35 year old men at the top of their game with millions of dollars and all the access that comes with. Add in the lowering of morals and is it really surprising there's infidelity?
You guys know that the Twitter account that tweeted the rumor lacks credibility, but much of the public doesn't think that critically. They hear the rumor and recirculate it. Ottawa may have understood that the tweet was a nothingburger (to intelligent people) but thought that in this environment anything and everything has legs, so they'd better get out in front of it ASAP, on their own terms. They drew attention to it, but it would have gotten attention soon enough anyway.
There is an easy way to figure out if the rumour is true. If he comes back it's not true, if he does not, it is.

It’s honestly not a far fetched rumour even if unfounded, it’s no secret that players have been known to dip into other pools on the road.
Elliot was either exposing how truly naive he is or is somehow trying to protect his real opinion due to his connections to GMs etc because honestly there’s always a risk of this type of thing when you’re famous.
As a lifelong Yankee fan, it seems like the new Ottawa owner has Steinbrenners disease.
Why is this hockey team ALWAYS a mess beyond the ice? I mean even if this isn't a thing. It's still a thing lol. The goaltender issue now. Even when Ottawa has a good goaltender there is still a goaltender issue. They either start to suck or they just don't play. What does this team need to do to make a legit professional team that performs to a playoff level for its paying fans?

Found it a little odd that they wouldn’t explain what the rumour was but then had no problem bringing up the Perry Bedard.
They could have even said that the rumour relates to allegations of infidelity if they didn’t want to go into full detail.

I haven't followed hockey outside of Team Canada and intl play for decades, I don't even watch sports in general. I literally just clicked on this because of this statement.
