Is it just me or is the Eastern Conference cracked (for lack of a better word) this season? The last place teams (as of this comment) in the Conference are only 7 points out of a wild card spot.

Caps had some bad luck hitting a post and the crossbar. Also I think they had 2 or 3 times where one of their players was alone with the puck in front of the goalie, yet didn't score. They also didn't score on two 2-on-1 breaks. When there is bad luck and too many missed opportunities to score goals, you end up short even against a team who played the night before.
Most 40 year old players in history don't score 5 goals in a 4 game stretch, but this is Ovechkin! He's the greatest goal scorer because he consistently goes on multiple scoring stretches in the 2nd halves of a season.
