The San Diego Gulls skated to a 2–2 tie through regulation and overtime against the San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday night at Pechanga Arena San Diego, with the game ultimately decided in a shootout. San Jose opened the scoring on a first-period power-play goal by Colin White before the Gulls answered in the second period to even things up.
San Diego tied the game at 1–1 when Yegor Sidorov buried his seventh goal of the season at 4:08 of the second period. After White struck again midway through the third to give the Barracuda the lead, the Gulls pulled their goalie late and were rewarded when Matthew Phillips scored the equalizer with 55 seconds remaining to force overtime.
Neither side found the net in the extra frame, sending the contest to a shootout. Calle Clang turned aside 22 shots in regulation and overtime for San Diego, while Jakub Skarek stopped 26 to keep San Jose in it, as the Gulls earned a point in a tightly contested Pacific Division matchup.
