Nobody can play with Rielly, he's a defensive liability who automatically makes everyone who's paired up with him a minus player. The guy still has to play his position, you could be taking care of your guy and zone but Rielly is consistently out of position, he can't shoot, he never hits, he doesn't seem to know what playing defense entails, he's completely lost out there…it's a joke.
My problem is, if we can see how bad Rielly is, what is management seeing? Are they just stupid or are they just not wanting to see what a train wreck he is…7.5 million dollars a year…lol
took 10 years, but its nice to see mathews drive a line. he had moments with domi and knies last season. but this is bare minimum for our 13 million dollar captain.
A buyout on Rielly could save the Leafs 4mill, but hit the cap until 2033. A trade would require retention for 4 years , so it's between a rock and a hard place. Then again it doesn't look good for the buds for the foreseeable future ,either way.
Rielly’s contract is a big part of what’s wrong with the Leafs performance this year but the re-he-he-he-ality is that his play is no longer competitive at an NHL-best level and because of the contract wisdom of previous GMs and presidents, Leafs and fans are stuck with him until. 2029 at an AAV = $7.5M. As raised previously by BS, limit Rielly’s ice time instead of increasing it and do the same for other core players whose performance has fallen off as a function of time. Last night was deja vue all over again in terms of Leafs giving up a lead late in the game and losing in OT or a shootout. As a Leaf fan, all we ask is that the team competes hard every game and if that means sitting out core players who are underperforming so be it. Develop the character of the dressing room instead of catering to underperforming core players. Better yet, start establishing better contract standards that have performance based incentives instead of blanket long term AAV levels that have been crippling the Leafs and other teams for years.
I can’t not believe Morgan reillly is on the leafs and is on the ice for all four of the isles goal he so bad we have to trade for him it a joke Austin Matthews played well and nick Roy did as well
I've never liked Tavares since he fleeced Toronto for a maximum contract then tried to play the Hometown hero. He has no heart, only works hard for empty net/easy points, and has completely ruined the attitudes of what is now the Leafs leadership core

I hope leaf fans realize how valuable Tanev is. With him in the lineup this team is good with him eating the tough minutes. Without him, not so much.
