Eklund DOMINATES as Sharks’ Young Guns Outshine Veterans in Loss to Ducks

The San Jose Sharks’ preseason clash with the Anaheim Ducks ended in a 5-2 defeat, but it’s not all doom and gloom for Sharks fans. Young talents shine bright, offering glimpses of a promising future for the teal and black.

Michael Misa, Sam Dickinson, and Shakir Mukhamadullin steal the spotlight with their impressive performances. Misa’s veteran-like play belies his age, while Dickinson showcases smart defensive responsibility. Mukhamadullin emerges as a potential defensive cornerstone, earning high praise for his sharp play.

However, veteran defensemen struggle mightily. Dmitry Orlov’s night is described as “brutal,” with costly turnovers plaguing his game. Klingberg and Leddy also falter, raising concerns about the blue line’s stability.

On a positive note, the Sharks display newfound resilience, pushing back when trailing – a marked improvement from previous seasons. William Eklund stands out as the team’s best player, creating numerous scoring chances and looking “like a man on a mission.”

Tune in for a deep dive into game statistics, line-by-line analysis, and exciting predictions for the Sharks’ young core as they gear up for the regular season.

  1. Agree Eckland looked fast and smart. Misa made good breakouts and zone entries. Nice growth for Dickenson. He has to stay up. Mukka looks good. Having some players marinate at the Cuda looks like its working.

  2. I only watched the 3rd period. What I saw:
-Eklund was by far the best player
    -Smith was a bit invisible,
-Misa was the opposite of invisible. Although he wasn’t “high” impact, he was noticeable on almost every shift. Set up Toffoli for that great chance. No way he doesn’t make the team

  3. To get some confedence going it would good to put some wins together. Of course its preseasom but this is a team which had not much sucsess in the past. Experienced tteams can still lose in the preseason but they know what they can do. It's not great to go with just one win in the season. After 20 games we will see where things could go

  4. The thing I start to worry so far is the lack of offense/goals from the Sharks.

I did not had high hope on the Monday game but this game I was hoping we would get more high danger chance, more shots and more goals. I don't know if there is a stat for preseason but are we last in goal for?

  5. It’s just one game but my hope rest in askarov. The whole team really excites me , some extremely talented players. But Askarov is one of my top 3 developing goalies. I want him to be Great!!!

  6. Both Misa and Dickinson did pretty well. Had some good shifts and some not so good shifts. By far Muk was the Sharks best defenseman and Ekky was the best forward. Lund looked good but not good enough to make the roster. Liked Kurashev's game again.

Asky got beat a couple times (and they were all shot at the same spot) but was hung out to dry.

The defense is a work in progress, but that is to be expected when three of your starting six defensemen just joined the team. Give them time to assimilate. My guess is Warso is shifting lines and pairs until a quarter way into the season.

Reason? Turnover. GMMG wants to retain all players that play well (as he has stated) unless he gets a Walman type return. Why? Because of what we just witnessed with the defense.

Good teams have little turnover while bad teams (like the Sharks) have a lot. It is a recipe for bad starts to the season and roster instability.

Last season there were three new defensmen (Liljegren, Ceci and Walman) and it repeated this season (like the season before). If the Sharks want to get better they will need to resign/extend players that play well and try to stabilize the roster better. Otherwise, this will repeat next season.

And Muk is not the Sharks best defenseman, that would be Orlov by a country mile. Just sayin.
