  1. I’ve been a Blues fan for a long time, but haven’t necessarily been a HOCKEY fan until 2017-18, so I recognize most of the names on the left of the board but when you go over to “missed opportunities”…over my head! Thanks for helping me learn my own teams’ history and the league as a whole!
My memory of the Cavalini bros. is that they used to have a weekly spot on a local rock radio station (KSHE-95) (94.7 on the dial). I wish I remembered more but they would always sign off by speaking in a high pitch voice “see ya’ later”.

  2. When you get toward the end it is just amazing, at least in the Blues case, how building a Cup winning team is such a “long game” process! I remember the Keenan years where instant gratification seemed to be the objective and then how it blew up in our faces! It started with great hope…and ended with great anger! R.I.P. CuJo. You were always a Blue. That you never won a Cup breaks my heart.

  3. How mad was I when the Blues traded Cujo? My oldest son's name is Curtis Joseph… born in 1995. Screw Mike Kennan.

  4. Watched this in anticipation of which Shannon would say was their worst trade. Oates, Brindamour, Shanahan, Pronger, et al. So many times they shot themselves in the foot. Some of the biggest things not mentioned about the history would be the Gilmour scandal, how they lost Scott Steven's, and Demitra's plane crash. Story of so many things that kept them from greatness. 2019 was a catharsis no one, not a lifelong Blues fan, can understand.

  5. Almost forgot about how Ralston Purina pulled a Florida Marlins in the early 80s and Mike Keenan was a mole for the Hawks, demolished the team (w one exception, brought in Pronger) or how StL only existed bc Detroit wanted to get rid of their old practice rink. Loved the "old barn".

  6. Ron Caron was the GM of the Blues in the 80s who made a lot of those crazy deals. He was either a gambling addict or some kind of a Canadienne double agent.

  7. Good stuff!
TY for giving my home town Notes some love, Shannon.
    You rock, sir!

The Ronning, Courtnall & Momesso trade absolutely broke my heart though.

  8. So basically we had a terrible front office, that didn’t know what they were doing. How tf you trade all those number one picks for duds.

  9. The Mike Liut trade in 85 and Joe Mullen trade in 1986 was nothing more than a cost cutting move by the Blues cheap owner Harry Ornest. Harry was both a savior in Blues history, he saved them from being moved to Saskatoon in 1983, to being a villian and being so cheap, he refused to pay for the Blues players to fly back to St.Louis after the Game 7 loss in Calgary in the 86 Campbell Conference Finals and they had to pay for their own way back

  10. Don't ever say dallas drakes name ever again. He doesn't exist. He isn't real. It never happened. He never was. I don't even know why im saying this about something that never happened and we don't speak about because its fake news and never happened and isn't real . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Don't . . . . . . . . . .

  11. The times I've cried as an adult are very few. But when they won on June 12th, 2019 I was crying tears of joy. 50+ years of me, my dad, and my grandfather (RIP) waiting was finally alleviated. PLAY GLORIA!!!!

  12. The Bishop trade is a great read, and possibly a great future video, because it's a good exploration into how GMs make decisions. The Blues had Elliott, whose career had basically been saved by St. Louis, and Bishop, who had been called up to back up Elliott when Halak was injured. Elliott played out of his mind, and the one-year deal that Bishop was on turned into a trade to Ottawa because of Elliott's spectacular play.

  13. The 83 Draft was missed because the then current ownership [Ralston-Purina] washed their hands of the franchise when the NHL nixed the move to Saskie. Therefore, no one was running the ship – Emile Francis took a job in Hartford rather than wait around for instructions – don't blame him, and he will always be remembered fondly in STL. Crazy time.

  14. Adam Oates signed a 4 yr contract in 1991 and decided in 1992 he was underpaid and loudly threatened to walk out if his contract wasn't renegotiated. This of course dropped his trade value considering all the other GMs knew he was disgruntled. Damn shame. Janney had some good years with Emerson & Shanahan tho- til Shannie stole his wife- oof.

  15. The way the Blues won the cup, the journey and everything we saw, a complete cinderella story from being the absolute worst team in the league to winning the cup. This year more than made up for the 52 years I've/we've suffered and been disappointed by a lot of bad breaks and bad luck. Hardly anyone saw this coming this year. A complete surprise. I am still euphoric months later. Berube not winning coach of the year was a TRAVESTY!!!

  16. It's obvious to me that Blues management were more about the mighty dollar and more interested in giving away talent and salaries to get average players. It only took them 50 years for management to get their shit together!

  17. I’m still in shock just a bit when saying the Blues are Stanley Cup Champs, what an amazing feeling after waiting my whole life to see it! I was spoiled growing up as making the playoffs was a sure thing, i am pretty sure the Blues hold the record for consecutive playoff appearances in all 4 major sports… One note, we did miss the playoffs last season (2017-2018) by one point. Let’s go Blues! (We Went Blues!)

  18. As a Flames fan I can tell you the Wideman Tourette’s are a very real thing and is what I think Dennis had when he ran into the ref a few years ago

  19. what you failed to mention in the Doug Gilmore trade, he was basically dumped due to an ongoing scandal involving an underage girl. they needed him out of town

  20. also while not trades or drafts, the 1977 death of Bob Gasoff in a motorcycle accident on Gary Unger's farm and Pavol Demitra dying in a plane crash with the Russian Team were two events that had a big effect on the team.

  22. I never understood why the Original 6 were in a separate division from all the new expansion teams. Is it to cut down on travel? Did the teams never play outside their own division? It just sounds like a horrible way to align competitive balance.
