  1. If you take development out of it and just pick a roster to try and win, I think it's Kindel that should come out when Malkin's back.
He only has 7 even-strength points on the year, and his PP1 spot is gone.
Whereas Novak has 16 EVP's. He's been one of the Pens better players over the last 20 games. Scoring's not everything but it does matter tremendously.
Novak not being the 3C all along is highly questionable. He's a natural Center. Our 3rd line, with all of its combinations, is probably the least productive in the NHL this season. For as much as people laud Kindel, it hasn't actually worked. He's last on the team in plus-minus.

  2. Happy New Year, DK. How about that Tomasino move to Philly for 25-yr-old Russian left-handed defenseman Egor Zamula

  3. Happy New Year! This is a tough scenario, but as you said DK, it is the kind of problem you want. Trades for draft picks are a possibility, but this is a team game, and right now it seems like you have a "team" in place. Someone has to sit, and that is the dilemma.

  4. If/When Malkin returns … and also if there are no other forward injuries … Koivunen and McGroarty will be out of the lineup until some combination of Rust/Rakell/Novak/Mantha gets traded near the deadline

  5. Hey yo! We got a L handed D man from Phillie. I'd like to know about him so will look around for info. Not enough talk around here about the D. I know it isnt as exciting to talk about compared to the forwards and the goalies, but c'mon, The D has been the biggest problem for years..and the grit. and we have some D men who are now both asset and liability. We do seem a little more grittier these days. This has been a great rebuild so far IMO…other than the D.

  6. Thank you DK. I think it's a good mess to have and Depth. It looks like there will be more trades. Great show DK Just glad your OK you matter

  7. Hey DK, I touched on all this yesterday, there is some decisions coming when and if Geno is ready to go. As I see it Koivenan has not progressed and is the oddman out. My comment yesterday was Geno steps up with Sid and Rakell, Rust with the kids. Looking at the Penguins their line one is not their best line over this last stretch, I'd give that nod to line 2 and I simply think they are too much of a load for other team's second lines. Second I would say the Lizotte line, and I rank them second only because of the lack of offense which isn't their role, and to be clear, this line is dominating. Lines 2 and 4 to me are untouchable, and while many will disagree, I am not impressed with line one 5 on 5, they are not leading this surge, and the kid line is struggling a bit, I've been waiting to see that chemistry develope with Mcgoatry & Kindle and I am still waiting, but Koivenan would be heading back to the AHL, he's had 30 games and he's not NHL ready, next man up. But we can all have opinions, but deep down it will be the same same, line one won't change, geno to two, minor tweaks on three, maybe on four……..and it will be the Novaks and Dewars who will be benched.

  8. Brazeau stirs the drink. Mantha disappears without him. Geno is way better with him. Brazeau makes the 2nd line. All 3 together are great. Great chemistry. One keystone.

  9. OMG DK, fresh off the OT home win vs DET, nerves starting to clear re OT performances and less goals conceded in recent times. Great too see Silovs turning it around hopefully that will hold. Notably, the recent Pens form has also coincided with help from the league, top of the Metro well open especially after Car 5 – MTL 7 result and Pens a mere 6 pts behind with a game in hand. I, like the fanbase I would imagine, are very aware of the available capspace and when (if at all) Kyle utilizes it given the state of this season right now. He hasn't done much wrong so far so I have confidence in that he will make the correct calls moving forward. Just hope I dont wake up in Australia and see J Brazzeu Beuvilloered to another team around T deadline. Happy New Year all from Australia.
