  1. Sounds to me like a good way to speed it up would be to issue a rule that every gm needs to have their pick ready to go by the time draft day comes, and issue a ten minute timer the day of that they need to answer or else they switch places with the team bellow them. I'd also just do away with the damn lottery, whoever finished last would get the number 1 pick and then it follows from there simple and straight to the point.

  2. 1) No need for a decentralized draft if you don't have everyone and their mom in the draft party. Just send the GM, President, and maybe the director of scouting. No need to send 25+ people cross country, NONE!

    2) Stop congratulating and thanking people. If the sentence, "with the ____ pick, the ______ are pleased to select __________" aren't the ONLY words out of your mouth, you lose the pick and get fined $10k per minute.

Draft will be over in an hour.

  3. They can change the presentation for the draft but they can't change the corruption of the draft

  4. That draft dragging along is like watching NFL. 60 minute game turns into 3 plus hours advertisement bonanza. All about ads and screen time for whoever does interviews. In avg nfl game you get 12 mins of actual play and on avg 140 ads during the telecast.

  5. I don't know how you have Hughes's return as the top story when Appleton returns today. 🤣🤣🤣

  6. Number one can we not think the host for 20 minutes before making the selection every time it gets old and is unnecessary
Number two can we not have 20 minutes of interviews after every selection. We don’t need the kid talking to the reporter and then the team they can do all that crap once the freaking guy goes to the team media section. We don’t need it on the actual draft floor anybody who is interested in listening your draft pick has to say can tune into the individual teams broadcast on YouTube
Three we don’t need the GM’s and scouts walking on stage every time to make the pic just have them be in their cities call it in. Let the commissioner make a pic and move on like every other professional sports league does their draft.

  7. Having the GMs present in one place helps make trades happen, even if it's just laying the foundation for future trades. The only thing worse than watching an entry draft that takes forever is a decentralized draft that takes forever. They need to start the NHL season a few weeks earlier and quit having playoffs at the end of June jamming GMs up against the draft and free agency this badly. That would go a long ways to making it easier to having the GMs there.

  8. Last year's draft sucked. Yeah it takes time but having all teams in one arena and the whole production, what we have watched for years is better. Sure drafts take time. If it is too hurried I think the teams will be rushed and unhappy. I would be, suck it up and let the process happen.

  9. is there a way to do the actual draft off camera, then days later have televised presentation of drafted players, which because already known would not be subject to delay or going over time?

  10. Worst part of last years draft… the cringy interviews and the crazy number of bro hugs on the way to the stage. Get rid of both.

  11. The draft in the current format is unwatchable, the talking heads who host the draft start running out of things to say before the halfway mark.Sometimes change is good.As for the Sabers,as a Fort Erie Ontario native,I for one am hoping there will finally be daylight at the end of this far too long bridge of despair.

  12. Every team's GM or whoever makes the pick doesn't need to congratulate the Stanley Cup champion and thank different people. Just make the pick.

  13. Thank you. Shot blocking is silly, not taking anything from the courage of the players, and to risky to the player, the injuries can be career ending.

  14. Anything they can do to make the draft shorter the better as this year’s in LA felt like sn eternity!!!

  15. They need to expand the draft so all players interviewed by teams have to do it with members of the Goo Goo Dolls in the room with them.

  16. The NHL really should just have the players and GM's go to some stadium or convention centre, along with the top 100 rated prospects (just in case). It's such BS that they drag it out with useless "blah blah blah" ceremony and also do it online. These teams are billion dollar operations – they can't afford a few plane tickets each year to send the GM and a couple helpers to the most important day of any GM's year? Just have a normal draft event, make it 6 hours on the first day, speed it up to get the first two rounds completed. After that, nobody's going to broadcast it except the NHL doing so online, and if they cannot manage doing round 3+ as an online stream then I guess they are not even as technologically sophisticated as OnlyFans. 🤣

  17. The zoom interviews were not only cringe but tech difficulties were just sad to see cause that should be a big moment for those young men, makes it seem like the team doesn't care. Either go back to the old format with teams on the floor or send a damn representative.

  18. I agree round one of the draft is way too long. Who wants to wait 2 hours for their team to make the 12th pick of the draft

  19. Fishbowls for everyone. It took a brutal eye injury (Bedard on the Leafs IIRC) to mandate visors. What kind of injury will it take to go for full face protection?

How about 3min to make your pick or you get shuffled to the bottom of the round? That would add all kinds of anxiety and excitement to the draft!

  20. What are Makar's numbers if he played on Chicago or Arizona or …. It's pretty easy to rack up points when you're playing on the ice with MacKinnon, Rantanen, Necas, Landeskog, Nichushkin, Lehkonen, Toews, et al … He's good, but "Perspective is everything; and everything is relative." – David Easton. It can be argued that Orr had Esposito, Hodge, Cashman, Bucyk, Sanderson, et al… These D-men with outstanding points runs are not the same without the supporting casts. Scoring records should (almost) never be considered within an individual's case study. Cheers!

  21. What if you've got 3 minutes but each team can request a clock pause for any timer other than their own. If a trade is being finalized, the other team can request a delay so that it can be finalized. The clock can reset so long as the main clock is reasonably quick

  22. I way to speed up the draft would be to make it so if a team runs their clock out before making a selection then they forfeit their pick to the next team

  23. 7:13 oh thank GOD they are getting rid of the “room,” i hated specifically watching hagens get drafted and i think the zoom literally froze 😅 felt so bad for him

also does anyone else remember the goo goo dolls following the sabres draft pick into the room?? they just wanted to be included i guess lol

  24. well players should have at least real helmets i know unpopular take but i mean full helmet with the cage at least for blocking shots you would have less chances to get hurted etc… me i prefer stars to stay healthy even if the helmet is less * aestheics* and like they already wear helmets anyhow!

  25. I have zero interest hearing GM and drafted player having a awkward conversation where nothing meaningful is said.

  26. Sabres fan here. Lots of optimism indeed. Hell, 6 straight wins. What’s not to like? Kevyn Adams, to his credit, made some good moves recently (Doan, Norris) but the change at GM was well overdue. I’m gonna put my foot in my mouth on this take but I think Buffalo will extend this winning streak to at least 10! 🙈🙈

  27. New NHL draft format – the draft takes place on-ice and immediately transitions into a classic ASG skills competition for the draftees.

I shouldn't joke though because the NHL might actually do something like that.
