The housing-tax argument is misleading. B.C.’s vacancy/speculation tax does not apply to a primary residence, which is how NHL players living in Vancouver would be housed. It targets vacant or under-used properties and is very unlikely to be a factor in free-agent decisions.
Framing this as a reason players are leaving is MAGA-style hyperbole: a politically motivated take that ignores how the tax actually works and substitutes ideology for facts.

the main reason…travel….if you ever travel across this continent you'll know the time zones really wreck havok on your personal time clock. It's why playing in the central division is much easier cause the travel time is less when playing teams in your division which means you're more rested for games.

Raycroft, you don't know what you're talking about. The reason I couldn't afford a house in the lower mainland is exactly because of all the foreign buyers. People from Hong Kong will buy up entire floors of condos as an investment and drive the prices out of reach for Canadians. Yes, there's a speculation tax, but you're exempt if you live there.

I work with someone went to school with a couple of the Aquilini's. Don't remember which ones but he did say one of them is a sleazy dude. They had to win a court case to get ownership of the team. I believe it was the group that now own the Dallas Stars they went to court with. We would have been better off if the ruling went the other way. Look at were the Dallas Stars are now. The last ten years you're seeing a trend. The Best players are going to States with low or no state taxes. Vancouver is no longer a nice city. Bad weather, junkies everywhere, everything has went downhill over the last 5 years especially. Oh, and the cost of real estate is insane and you loose money if you buy for sure at this point. Other than that's it's as good as most other Canadian city to play in (which means it sucks).
