Been an ice hockey fan here in UK since I was 15. Took my husband to his first game at MSG (Rangers/Islanders) in 2005 so eased him into it 😂
Have been a Bolts fan for a while now – probably originally picked cos I liked the logo – and hubby supports Flyers. Fave players are Kuch and I’m a bit of a goalie nut and have been forever so I love to watch Vasilevskiy, but actually I’ll watch any goalie and be like 😮

I have a weird netters origin story because I'm not a (brand) new hockey fan or a new gay romance fan, but I'm am a new Empty Netters subscriber and a new HR fan, like I got into both at the same time through the netters reviews 😂🤷♀️ This is only my second full season as a hockey fan, and it will be my 3rd playoffs as a fan. As someone who had to learn hockey fandom from scratch as an adult, I wanted to recommend some places to start the fan education series based on what my some of first questions were.
1. I had already been to AHL games over the years before i actually put effort into understanding the game and what i was seeing, so I guess the real starting place would be this. What things are you most likely to see during games (e.g. line changes, pulling the goalie, etc.), and why are they happening or what do they mean? Also, how do you follow the action when the puck can be hard to see?
2. What are the rules? Like what is actually being enforced? Because I was so thrown off by seeing no calls after wild body slams but then seeing calls when I had barely seen any physical contact.
3. Who won the face-off? This sounds ridiculous, but hear me out: the winner sends the puck BEHIND THEM, which is the OPPOSITE of a basketball tip-off. This was counter intuitive to me and it took me awhile to figure it out 🙃
4. What does this phrase mean (too many to list)? There's a lot of slang, and it gets even worse when broadcasters mix the sports metaphors and talk about someone quarterbacking the PP.
5. What are some basic strategies for the different positions aside from shoot toward the net? Like how do I know if someone is putting themselves in a good or bad position? What's the benefit of a goalie going after the puck behind the net?
matthews does not deserve to be on team usa this year guy has been a ghost, the leafs sucks ass and hes hardly even going to sniff 30 tucks this year. thompson, debrincat, caufield or robertson is far more deserving

Just keep going! Literally no romance right now but it's part of the journey 😂 side note that Shane is on the spectrum so keep that in mind. He literally cannot read between the lines.
