When you go back and watch the ice level replay of the hit on Matheson you can clearly see Marchand isn't tracking the puck, he's looking at Matheson the whole time, turns back in towards him once the puck is cleared, and gives him an elbow to the head. This was naked headhunting, and yet we all know there will be no punishment for it.
