Connor McDavid finally knows what it takes to win a cup…

One of the biggest questions for the 2025-26 NHL season has been answered, with Connor McDavid resigning with the Edmonton Oilers for another two seasons! McDavid not only reupped his deal, but also took a tremendous pay cut to resign with the Oilers. And the reason why he did so, is because he desperately wants to win a cup in Edmonton. As it’s the only way to cement his legacy as the next Wayne Gretzky.

  1. Also the oilers don’t know how to find a half decent goalie who could stop a puck in the playoffs

  2. The Oilets have the same problems from the past 5 years: depth, defense and goaltending. They fixed the depth issue in 2024 and they almost won. Then Ken Holland let Broberg and Holloway go to St Louis and it showed.

  3. So your theories is… let me get this right, because the florida panthers don't pay taxes, thats why they won. Even though the oilers have 2 of the best players in the leauge…? That about sum it up???

  4. Until McDavid and Darisaitl can win a cup, they're not the #1 and #2 players in the world. Maybe the best two to never win a cup, but not the best. Cup winning pedigree adds a lot to your rep as a good player. In other words, the player that McDavid has been compared to since basically day one, Nathan MacKinnon, would largely be considered a better player than either of them.

  5. I think its not necessary the tax thing like people claim. Its depth and goaltending. The oilers just don’t have the goaltending that wins championships. As much as they hate to admit it, stu isn’t the goalie that will win them a championship

  6. No team will ever win a Cup with McDavid wearing the C. Ive been saying it for years. Either he needs to let someone who knows how to lead take the helm, or completely reinvent himself as a captain and quit throwing his team under the bus when things go wrong. He doesn't have their respect because of this. Also, Oilers upper management refuses to address the issue of goaltending. Ive been saying it for the better part of a decade and I stand by it: Mark my words, McDavid will NEVER captain a Stanley Cup victorious team. NEVER.

  7. Orrrr maybe the Panthers were the better team. Twice. Maybe Gretz and McDavid are not comparable. Maybe it's time to stop making excuses.

  8. Today the money plays a huge part of the game.
Being an Edmontonian and living through those glory days there is so much more than just this. We were up 5-1 against LA in the 3rd only to loose 6-5 in OT putting us out. The tears when Theoren Fleury (Calgary) scored in OT to bump us out. The 4th cup for the Islanders was the last one for them. "The Boys On the Bus" then got it together as a unit, a team, fighting for everyone all the time. The Islander's "Drive for Five" was snuffed out by Edmonton winning their first of 5 cups in 7 years. ( Six if you count the year they won it dressed in NYR uniforms.) We've been close a number of years since but that team spark is still missing. Here's hoping. Peace out.

  9. I'm a Big fan of McDavid. And he Damn sure has the talent to win a cup, especially with Draisaitl, and Nugent Hopkins, as well as a few more on the team. However, if Edmonton doesn't spend some coin, or even make a decent trade to bring in a Consistent Tendy. Both Skinner, and Pickard are decent tendies, but it is hard to stay Consistent, and at a top level of winning when you have 2 Goalies who are honestly back-ups. And I feel they will keep on riding this Struggle-Bus. I really do hope that McDavid can hoist the Cup in Victory before he hangs up the skates.
