They have got to trade Matthews, this guy is always hurt and when he's not he looks disinterested.
There's no way this team can acquire the kind of wingers Matthews needs and deserves, they don't have the assets to send the other way. The Leafs are notorious for doing this to their stars, Sundin played with 2nd and 3rd liners most of his tenure, then when they get Mogilny, and we start seeing those sweet, sweet cross crease passes and huge one timer goals, they drop him on the second line!! It's time.

maybe its time to write this season off miss the playoffs and maybe tank and get the first overall pick dont be buyers or sellers at the deadline and try to get a good pick in this years draft and try again next year
The Leafs desperately could use a younger version of Chris Tanev considering how injury-prone he has been. Has Brad Treliving been a much better quality GM than Kyle Dubas was? In too many ways, the answer has so far been no. Trading high draft picks for barely available Scott Laughton and Brandon Carlo has hurt the ability of the Leafs to make trades.
This regular season has featured the Leafs fall to dead last in their own division, just a season removed from a top finish in the same division. At a minimum I see the need for the Leafs to be at least soft sellers because what remains of the regular season is likely to feature a battle for any sort of playoff spot. The Leafs may very well need to be harder sellers if there’s any sort of losing streak that goes beyond two games or so.
The only answer will be a 10-12 game winning streak to save the season.
