Craig Button on the Canucks hybrid rebuild, Cootes at the World Jr’s and more
TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joined the guys and talked about the Canucks doing a hybrid rebuild, what he expects from Braeden Cootes for Team Canada and more.
And I've got to ask, what is with the media's obsession with the word 'rebuild'? They're infatuated with it. It's like they work to submit each GM and president to "just say the word!!" Fire all the sports media in Vancouver.

"Hybrid rebuild." As in, we had a short winning streak and one big trade, so the "rebuild" is over. Obviously you don't want to be the Sabres and be endlessly rebuilding. But have a plan. Rutherford has experience with this and he has cup rings, the first Canucks executive with rings. Have a 3-4 year plan and work out systematically what you want to accomplish every year. If you end up out of the rebuild quicker than expected, fantastic. But do not rush it artificially. I'd rather suck for 3-4 years and be a contender after that than this awful mediocrity.

The Media needs to continue calling out management and ownership about the 15 year retooling which they invented as "HYBRID" but is "TRASH". Aquilini only cares about playoff profit and ticket sale.Could care less about a Stanley cup. We as fans need to stop buying tickets if this continues and a full rebuild is not accepted!! We need top 5 first round picks for 2-3 years to be cup contenders like all recent cup winning teams have had to do in the last 26 years
There is no such thing as a hybrid rebuild… there are Hybrid-Systems….but not hybrid rebuilds…what the bejeezus are you even trying to say?….dont confuse EveryFan because you are confused,ok?
This Canucks season is officially done. It's now a write-off and everyone is just showing up to the rink to collect paycheques. A few weeks ago — like most fans — I was not aware that Elias Petterson had suffered a severe emotional loss when his wife miscarried their first baby. This happened during the Quinn Hughes trade, and fans like me were told that Petey was "injured". They decided not to make this public and I can understand why. But for all of us Canucks fans at this time, such a deeply personal loss makes the game of hockey not important at all. All of us fans want to extend our deepest consolations to the Petterson family. You hockey talking heads can keep on having your yadda-yadda BS sessions, but as far as I'm concerned this tragedy is the end of the 2025-26 season. Talk to you again next September.
I just think it means they aren't doing a tear it down to the studs rebuild.. They are already 1 of the youngest teams in the league and will get younger after moving their over 30 UFA's. Potentially will have 4 first round picks in the next 2 drafts after Sherwood goes.. They have 19 mil in cap space next year which could go up to 30 million if they decide to move a combination of Boeser, Garland, Hoglander, Myers & M Petey… Could be turned in 2 years around if they hit on some these picks…
You guys are sooo good, we are and always have been blessed as Canucks fans to have yourselves and so many others Sekres and Price , Halford and Brough etc….Thank you all so much . Merry Christmas

Hybrid rebuild basically means we are not trading Petterson, Demko or Brock. All other veterans are game to be shipped out.
