Bryan Rust on Penguins’ loss to Oilers

  1. Watching McJesus and Draisaitl constantly putting up 4 points a game against the penguins like it’s nothing is just so embarrassing. Imagine if Crosby and Malkin had figured out how to work in tandem on a line together like they do, and imagine if Crosby still challenged defenders the way he did in his youth. You know, the way McDavid does every night. He clearly goes out there every night with the attitude of “I’m the best player that has ever played the game and I’m going to embarrass all of you like it’s a video game to prove it” and then he does exactly that. That’s what Crosby did 20 years ago; coming out of the dead puck era, scoring a combined 222 points in his first 2 seasons while being abused by thugs every game while on a crap team that didn’t defend him. Taking on defenses 1 vs 4 and scoring unimaginable goals. That’s the stuff that Connor still does today, a decade into his career. Yeah it’s nice Sid still averages a point a game and blah blah blah, but he doesn’t go out and take command of a game the way he used to. McJesus still does.

  2. I’m starting to think this home-stand may have been the beginning of the end for this season. I was starting to believe and I let myself hope for something more than mediocrity, but I don’t know if they pull out of the tailspin at this point. 🤞🤞

  3. The Pens are just a horrible defensive team and have been since their last cup. Compounding their defensive shortfalls is lack of physicality and forwards situational awareness.

  4. I still think it was time to get rid of Sullivan, but it is becoming VERY evident that the main problem is the players in that locker room.

If they are just going play like this indefinitely no matter who is coaching, then it’s time to say goodbye to a few of them, even if some are fan favorites.

I’d rather watch kids play like crap and make stupid mistakes than see the veterans continue to do it. At least the young guys can/will improve. These guys are who they are and nothing is going to change as long as they are still on this team.
