Cheer up, boys. We've seen the Leafs suck for many years. Play the long game. This year I'll admit it's weird; they have a lot of the pieces to win a Cup except for a #1 dman, but they won't work together. That's the big issue.
They need scoring from the big boys and solid team-oriented defence. One or 2 "superstars" are what most teams have, not 4. Go to the net, throw the puck to the net and good things happen. This cutesy perimeter stuff needs to go. The McMann line with Roy has worked hard and are getting the results. They aren't the most talented but they work hard.
Another issue that continues to haunt the team is turnovers in their own zone. Once or twice a game I can live with, but 15 or 20? No team can win with that. The goalies have been really good; this isn't on them.
Berube wants one thing and the players want to do what they want. Firing the coach will not work; it's been done many times and we're still not going where we want to go. The country club atmosphere has to end. Players must be held accountable.
Whatever happened to bag skating? If they're fighting the coach beat them down until they don't resist; move the ones who refuse to change. Berube is a Stanley-Cup winning coach; he knows what it takes to win. Listen to him, players; he knows how to win.
This seems to be a mental issue, because they have the talent; they just don't seem engaged, which seems crazy to me. That's not a winning mentality. I think a lot of this has to do with entitlement.
We're just seeing what they normally do in the playoffs during the regular season. Berube is trying to get them to play playoff hockey during the regular season, and the stars don't want to do what the coach wants. Tavares has been a good soldier, but he can't do everything himself.
Marner couldn't elevate his game in the playoffs. I'm glad he's gone, and if the rest won't elevate, then bye bye to them, too. Domi and Yarnkrok can go. I'm coming around on Robertson, but his whining about salary last season really got under my skin, so it'll take awhile. Cowan has been a pleasant surprise.
If you want to know what the team needs, it's Gary Roberts. He put the team on his back every playoff season and always beat the Senators, even when the Leafs were last and the Senators were first. Good times. A guy who hates to lose and gives everything he has every game. Can we have that again, please?
More than 1 thing can be true at same time. All your criticism of their heart,effort,& buy in are true. But as Colorado fan who works at their arena-I don't think the Leafs takent & depth is as good as most Leaf fans think. I have no dog in this-I don't remotely hate the Leafs. But I did predict you'd miss playoffs before the season & granted they should be better than they are. Honestly are kinda worse processwise than the actual record you have-could be in worse shape. But I think many have overrated your blue line forever & your forward depth just isn't as good as some people think.Matheuws is shell of his former self for whatever reason(s) & doesn't seem like a leader or bought in. As an American I'm petrified of him being our captain at the Olympics but he's captain in name only.
At least USA has true leaders who are better players than him that will really handle the leadership. If Matheuws dominates in Italy that's great for us but actually much worse news for Toronto,& I definitely don't expect that. But Toronto isn't on par talentwise with some 2ndary teams in nhl-let alone top contenders like my AVS,Dallas,Minny,Vegas, Edmonton,TB,or Florida when healthy. Yes mentality,& being soft have always been this cores issue but so is talent & depth now. Talking about 2019 Blues like comeback is delusional to me. Where is your Ryan O'Reilly,or Petrangelo AS LEADERS ALONE-forget the players on the ice! And that's just to name 2 great leaders on that team.Those Blues also had significantly more talent,& depth. And leadership groups aren't even REMOTELY comparable. Still took Binnington being BEYOND UNBELIEVABLE for them to pull that off.
Leafs have more experience (mostly bad playoff experience-no ECFs let alone Cups)-but they don't have as much talent as Anaheim,SJ,NYI…they are a middling talented team to me-like 15th in the NHL-no higher than like 12th. Not just about talent in hockey but your intangibles/chemistry seem even worse! You seem to think they have elite talent & depth-maybe true a few yrs ago with Hyman,& Marner-though your depth,& blue line still weren't great even then. Forget Makar-who was your Devon Toewes at any point with this core-Reilly? Puhlease give me a break! Used to be good-not great-offensively but always been soft as Charmin-mentally,& physically (like most your top guys seemingly-including Marner as you said)-& suspect defensively. But now it's just a middling talented team with overrated stars-who aren't leaders-& seemingly don't care much. To be fair-I watch much more of West than East but I do follow a lot of Leaf pods,& just other teams hockey pods in general.

Laughton should be #2 or #3 center not 4th. Berube can’t see who is playing lousy?? Who’s running the team? Domi is a pylon. Does zero all game, never misses a shift, pp time??? Bullshit!! Wake up!!
