The mere fact Garland's interference/holding went on that long is suspect. There a good 7 seconds of penalty going on before McDavid lost his mind. Did it warrant a suspension of McDavid? Yes. SHould the play been whistled for a penalty on Garland right away? Yes, again.
The fact that Garland even admitted in an interview that he was tryna hold McDavid down during that last seconds of the game is beyond me

So, Garland did nothing wrong, as the refs see it anyway, this isn't a Garland problem, this is a ref failure, as usual.
this is where the NHL has it backward. the referee NOT making the call influences the outcome.

The ref was at fault here. He should have called a penalty long before it escalated to the cross check.
