BLOCKBUSTER: Why a Steven Stamkos Trade Would HURT New York Islanders Future | Huge Stakes Debated

The New York Islanders weigh a blockbuster move for Steven Stamkos, but is sacrificing their future for a veteran goal scorer the right call? Gil Martin dissects heated trade rumors, exploring the potential impact of adding the 35-year-old Nashville Predators forward and why the high price—and cap hit—may not fit Matthew Darche’s long-term vision.

Key topics include a preview of critical matchups against the Rangers and Blue Jackets, which Islanders have a realistic shot at Olympic selection, and the looming decisions around Bo Horvat, Emil Heineman, Simon Holmstrom, and David Rittich. Plus, relive a classic franchise moment with Islanders Birthday of the Day, featuring original center Dave Hudson’s historic night. Don’t miss strategic insights and updates on the team’s playoff push and roster outlook.

  1. There is NO way the Islanders will or should trade for Steven Stamkos. He's way past his prime.

  2. This is not a realistic conversation I hope… Stamkos is baggage at best now. If were lucky enough to improve and get younger; playoffs or not, is a future! Stamkos is erevelent in Nashville… He doesnt look the part of a fisherman now days its more like a charter… And it's just a cruise for him and not the business of fishing… where Roy's got his team on deck… sink or swim its a crew!

  3. He is 36 years old and is owed 8 million per for the next 2 years after this year. His trade value is shit there never getting a fist rd pic for him

  4. Please tell me this isnt a serious thing? I swear I will kick the islanders to the curb and move on if they give up any of our youth

  5. I pay absolutely no credence to the Athletic as they spout the most ludicrous garbage in a poor bid for attention, take my advice and give The Athletic as much consideration as you would a fart in the wind. Our very inexperienced GM is under the watchful eye of John Collins and the thought that Collins would take on a 35 year old forward with an 8 million dollar contract is laughable, remember that this is the same man who stopped Lamoriello from giving Brock Nelson a blank check to re-sign. Add to that the fact Stamkos has a FULL no move and would have to waive to come to the Islanders…which would never happen in a billion years…and you see how ridiculous this whole topic sounds.

  6. Maybe the Predators would be happy just to unload the salary they’re paying Stamkos. In that case, they might be willing to settle for a 2nd round draft pick plus a Maxim Tsyplakov type.
