Was firing Marc Savard the right move for struggling Maple Leafs?

Bryan Hayes joins SC with Jay Onrait for another edition of Harvey’s Hot Takes, where he gives his thoughts on the Maple Leafs firing assistant coach Marc Savard on Monday, how shocked he is that Aaron Rodgers could be back in the playoffs for the first time since 2022, and how he feels about the Packers rollercoaster of a season.

  1. Hayes was the guy I was waiting to hear a detailed opinion on this. 100% right… He's the host of Overdrive and as early as Blue Lunch for a few reasons, and logic is one of them.

  2. man. im not nearly as tapped in as i used to be. i didn't even know marc savard was back working in the league. regardless of the situation, i'm happy to see him back.

  3. Its up to players to play the system and TRY. They players arent even doing that. No hustle, no emotion, nothing. Thats a player problem. Like Yzerman said, skill only goes so far. He watched how much a player's wants the puck and how much they hate loosing. Leafs don't look like they want the puck or hate loosing

  4. If your head coach doesn’t Know how to fix A power play then get a head coach who does know.

    Fire Bérubé and Treeliving

  5. It was in fact the water boys who were responsible for the team’s lack of passion 😂

  6. Wasn't Treliving the GM who acquired Johnathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar in exchange for a 1st rounder + Tkachuk? Can Leafs fans really be surprised at Tree's poor decision making only a handful of years removed from his Termination in Calgary? This outcome is Obvious!

  7. Can we please fire this GM? He shouldn’t even be in the league dude is pathetic. Also Mike Tomlin can go please. His coaching is boring asf. I haven’t watched my Steelers in years cus they are boring asf

  8. I’m going to keep on saying it. Berube doesn’t fit the team, and we were blind to it last year. Let me paint you a picture. Leafs team, consistently outshot almost every game, goal scoring down, especially from key players like Matthews and Rielly, inconsistent power play that goes through long stretches of droughts, play style that can be described as “boring” and “low energy”. Sound familiar? Because that was the leafs LAST YEAR! We overlooked it because we won a lot of games we maybe should have, largely on the shoulders of Anthony Stolarz who led the league in save % last year. Matthews and Rielly haven’t looked good since Chief came here. Yes for Matthews, injury plays a part, but I don’t think that big of a part.

In my opinion, as much as I like him as a person, Chief has to go. Brad I could take or leave. He’s made some good moves (Roy, Joshua, Laughton, OEL and Stetcher are some of the few high spots on this team right now), but if it makes people feel better, fire him too. But end of the day, we are going to be stuck with this roster for another 2-3 years, you can’t blow it apart when you don’t have picks. Sorry to say.

  9. Grown Men that need to be told how to
Play Hockey after Many Many Years being taught on the
Way up thru the Minor Hockey System!!
    C.mon Wake Up!!

  10. Treliving should be FIRED asap. He learned nothing from his experience in Calgary. Treliving let their star player walk for free. He comes to Toronto and does the same thing again with Marner. A Good GM would have told Marner's agent that he either signs at the beginning of the year or he needs to give a list of teams he is willing to be traded to. This talk that he had a no trade is BS. A good GM would have put the hockey team first by telling Marner that he will not be playing very many minutes if he does not agree to wave the no trade. With it being his contract year he would have waived it so he could play a lot of minutes to increase his value for the next contract. Another reason why Treliving needs to be FIRED is because the guy does nothing for the team all season. He just sits there watching the team suffer instead of getting Berube some players who play his style. Treliving has made this team worse. He likes to wait until the trade deadline before he actually does something. Only a fool would wait until the trade deadline to help their team. Treliving likes to wait until he has to pay a higher price before he does anything. He needs to Go ASAP.

  11. Everyone focused on Matthews but our 'best defenceman' and part of the core is probably the guy you shoulda got rid of. Rielly is top 5 worst D for his money

  12. Trading away current firsts is rough, trading away multiple future firsts is almost unforgiveable. Why was the Laughton trade not a conditional 2nd that became a 1st if the leafs made the cup finals? Why was the Carlo deal only top 5 protection? They have been a playoff team for 10 years a falloff was guaranteed just a question of when not if… Failed era and empty cupboard with no picks in 2 of the next 3 years.

  13. You are cutting Matthews too much slack. He can take his $14million ass down to the Marlies. That will send a message im sure, no one will care what gucci bag he arrives with in that arena.

  14. Toronto will always sell out their games regardless of how bad the team is. Unless the fans stop showing up, nothing will change. Leaf management knows it, leaf fans know it.
