I like Tree, I really do, but man, saying there's no disconnect between players and Coach seems to be far from the truth. The players either can't, or won't buy into Chief's system and I don't believe in the can't.
It’s not on you Berube. This team has gone through coach after coach and it’s clear at this point that it’s not a coaching problem. It’s the players. I don’t understand how you can play for the biggest hockey market in the world and have ZERO passion or fight in your game. Brutal.

to me Matthews and Knies look terrible out there like they don't care. Domi, Robertson ,Jarnkrok, Reilly just seem to be taking up space and not accomplishing anything. The team atmosphere looks terrible. If you look at their faces on the bench it says everything. How do you change it? I think in the next month if the Leafs are still out of the play off picture they should start a major over haul. That should have been done at the beginning of this year. The bottom 6 has improved a lot. Top 6 is terrible along with the power play. Goal tending is good. Carlo was a bad trade. Signing Zadorov or Quinn Hughes and not resigning Tavares would have been the smart move.

Ok, umm… just in the off chance this reaches ANYONE at MLSE. We collectively as fans can see behind the curtain and understand this is a facade with a sacrificial lamb being thrown to the wolves. This is unacceptable as an organization with the history the leafs have.
The problem is the coach and assistants and gm.
Why?
Gm is chasing the exact players he lost (Florida panthers) trying to recreate a team that’s an anomaly even by Paul Maurice’s standard. Go look at Paul’s playoff record before Florida. He got a fresh start, fresh team, the team had a lot of new players … top two former flames players who Brad lost or traded.
And then the coach, the players don’t want to play a north south dump and chase playstyle. It’s boring , I’m bored , you’re bored , they’re bored. Babcocks similar style.
Our core are elite creative possession based players who want to put up points…. They’re not trying to watch McDavid and McKinnon and manner racking up points while they have to play a boring ass play style that gets them outshot every game and generates no creative offence.
Matthews has a contract to play up to and rack up points in less than 2 years. You don’t think he wants the coach canned asap so he can get back to a coach who plays a more offensive play style???
Be real with yourself , this isn’t the military. These are players who want to win but also want to put up points and enjoy the process.
Clearly this process is not enjoyable , doesn’t provide any personal stat benefits and they keep getting out shot (since day 1 last year)
I really wish you could change contracts so that if you miss the playoffs you get a reduced pay of 25%, it would create a better product and guarantee everyone is giving their all. Notice how players play better on contract years? Yeah they are driven by $$$… Why risk anything if you get paid the same regardless of performance?

This is just food for thought, if TML's top star players aren't playing to their potential, can you not move them down to the bottom 2 lines? Move the bottom 6 up to the top 6, top 2 lines until the top players improve. It's a simple line change that can help all aspects of your game. It's worth a try.

Berube looks pissed. There are players on the team IMO sold him out. Matthews must share in the responsibility and accountability. If there are players on the team that don't like Berube's north-south play they have rocks in their head not realizing their east-west play hasn't worked in many opportunities.

Treliving should be FIRED asap. He learned nothing from his experience in Calgary. Treliving let their star player walk for free. He comes to Toronto and does the same thing again with Marner. A Good GM would have told Marner's agent that he either signs at the beginning of the year or he needs to give a list of teams he is willing to be traded to. This talk that he had a no trade is BS. A good GM would have put the hockey team first by telling Marner that he will not be playing very many minutes if he does not agree to wave the no trade. With it being his contract year he would have waived it so he could play a lot of minutes to increase his value for the next contract. Another reason why Treliving needs to be FIRED is because the guy does nothing for the team all season. He just sits there watching the team suffer instead of getting Berube some players who play his style. Treliving has made this team worse. He likes to wait until the trade deadline before he actually does something. Only a fool would wait until the trade deadline to help their team. Treliving likes to wait until he has to pay a higher price before he does anything. He needs to Go ASAP.
It has to be a team effort all around. But if the players are not happy with the head coach, then speak up and stop the nonsense on the ice!
Maybe when people do not show up to the hockey games, then maybe the players and the head coach will get the message!!!!!
If the bottom 6 players are playing better than the top 6 players, just switch the lines, move bottom 6 up and move top 6 down. Simple. Cheers 🍻

What a gutless move by Treliving – especially 4 days before Christmas. Didn’t they have a PP coach in Guy Boucher 3 years ago who was fired for having 90% of these same players? But sure go find a new coach with the magic fairy dust who has the answer – or maybe the answer is personnel who actually deploy the coach’s strategy. This is a panic driven move by the manager. Change all of the players at this point. The fact that they just buried this particular coach during the holidays is so gross and a new low.
