Someone commented in a post about Heated rivalry that it was unlikely straight men liked Heated rivalry – you guys show that this is clearly dead wrong.
I commented on the ep 3 ending saying that I wasn't sure if Scott covering Kip's socks was supposed to carry dramatic weight. Obviously, it was. I read it now as Scott staying in the closet, but he still has feelings for Kip (that's why Kip and co. have seats).
My first LOL moment in this ep was Ilya's reaction when Svetlana says he could play on the wing with Shane centering.
Thinking about possible S2 storylines: without spoiling anything, ep 6 will show that there is more to come for the Hollanov arc and depending on how they adapted the epilogue we'll know how much of Ryan Price's story we might get.
I was going to write more but will wait for after the season finale so I don't spoil anything.
You guys should invite Francois Arnaud (Scott Hunter) to the show! I feel like his character is having an impact in the hockey world from what I've read in some interviews.
A team captain getting his shit rocked 20 seconds into a game doing goo-goo eyes at his situationship of 9 years is exactly what hockey needs more of for me to tune in. The biggest draw of womens sports for me is the players dating each other. Tell me this team is playing against that team on Friday? Not interested. Tell me it's this and thats players first time playing against each other since they broke up? I WILL be watching with popcorn. An additional layer of relationship drama is just what male professional sport needs and I will die on this hill. Sports fans are depriving themselves of God-tier content by being homophobic
Shane looking back at Ilya doesn’t happen in the book. He gets smacked into the glass in a bad way instead, there is no eye contact with Ilya when it happens.
Luke Prokop.
Dudes, Heated Rivalry is not a documentary. It's a work of fiction. Just enjoy it as a work of fiction.
Okay, fine. FINE. I'll remain as a subscriber after the Heated Rivalry reviews are over. Because y'all are so open, honest and welcoming about it all. And good at this conversational thing, of course.
FYI: Do you know who Connor Stories (Ilya) played in the Joker movie in the Joaquin Phoenix version ?!..
Guys, great reaction for the Heated Rivalry Episode 5. And hell yeah, this and episode 3 are best episodes for a TV series ever. 💪❤️
I do love the pop culture being woven into the hockey talk.
OMG I did not realise this video was about the 5. Episode of Heated Rivalry! Glad I decided to check it out to be sure 😂
So François Arnaud the actor who plays Scott Hass heard from NHL agents that they have clients that are gay. And he’s also heard from people who say that his performance has got them to think differently about certain life decisions. We might be seeing some news made in the next few weeks. 🫡
1:48:53 what if, hear me out, season 3 features a MHL social media and a player love story…
I have one last theory about these recaps : you keep your comments in a deeply serious and analytical mood to avoid crying about our boys' very moving love ❤️ stories 😭
"hockey podcast" yet yearly a hour is spent on heated rivalry, that aint hockey thats entertainment. i refuse to watch any episode talkign about a tv show
Are there guidelines for what can be put on a goalie mask?
I know its a very different kinda hockey media than Heated Rivalry but this show is the most mainstream "hockey thing" since the mighty ducks.
Why did I start to care about hockey right after the Arizona team moved away 😢
I'm late to the bandwagon, but also very happy that HR introduced me to you guys! New fan locked in
In defense of Shane’s decision to look back at Ilya (which leads to his injury). This was a masterful poetic choice by the writers. For your consideration: this is a direct allusion to one of the greatest love stories of all time in recorded human history: Orpheus and Eurydice. For those that don’t know the story— Orpheus goes to the underworld to save his wife Eurydice after her death. Hades agrees to let Eurydice return, but with one condition: Orpheus must walk ahead and not look back at her until they are both fully in the world of the living. Orpheus looks back because he loves her more than anything and the thought of returning to the land of the living without her is too much to bear. So he looks back simultaneously proving his love to her and losing her at the same time. SHANE LOVES ILYA THAT MUCH.
As a Russian, I feel very seen with your comment about end parentheses. It's true. It's not instead of an exclamation point though, it's just how we write smileys instead of 🙂 Basically it is to make sure you read my message in a positive way.
ilya is not gay, he's bisexual 🙂
49:55 this is the kind of goalie lore i want
i can’t believe josh norris is on the sabres fr
The russian ) is a smiley face 🙂 without eyes, not an exclamation point
58:00 someone needs to slide into François / Scott Hunter's dms and get him on What Chaos!
The hit was the only moment of this episode that i did not like. It did not play out that way in the book and i think it made Shane look very unprofessional and goofy. I was trying to convince myself that he was looking back for a possible drop pass you have ruined that 😂
I’ve been a hockey fan for about a year (by way of Shoresy then our local SPHL team), and a fan of this pod just since the HR coverage started. I’m enjoying the hockey coverage and the show in general, but my favorite thing about this episode is that y’all can’t go twenty minutes without making a HR reference. I’ll definitely be watching this show even after this season of HR ends
She said he should come out to the sunshine- then Wolf Parade’s song makes even more sense— in in the lyrics
I LOVE your Heated Rivalry reactions! Wow! Seriously. Like I've watched another Hockey podcast too. But this one? Really impressive. Thank you for doing this. Especially for the comment calling out that one account. You rock!! 💪
Additional thoughts: Quinn and Jack are the most Stannable current players. They both give so many clips and sound bites but are also great players, and they’re both attractive. Also, backed so hard on the Joker personality. Weirdos!
There’s book 3,4,5 and 6 left- they covered books 1 and 2 in season 1.
I guess you must have had the answer to your question already, but just in case: the gap between the end of 3 and Kip’s presence at the last game of the Cup series does not exist in the book. They are never apart. Kip resigns himself to his spot away from the public while things simmer in Scott’s mind. Scott makes the acquaintance of Kip’s parents, they f..ck, etc and of course Kip continues to go to the games with Scott’s complimentary tickets. It’s a continuum. there’s no hiatus.
1:42:00 In the books, the running gag is that Ilya clocks everyone's tea. His gaydar is top notch. It's like he's an elite sniper for identifying queers.
What chaos joining the man in the crease vs scott hunter war on the side of scott hunter 😭😭😭 kings
You are my absolute favorite podcast reviewing the show right now. I love your opinions and how well you seem to understand the show. I also really love that you seem to actually live it! It would be awesome if you had any of the actors on and I am looking forward to seeing you have Jacob back on in the future. Thank you for the amazing content❤
100% this is now my favourite podcast because of the texting punctuation talk, it completely needed to be said. I haven’t followed hockey since Pavel Bure’s rookie season when I realized how queer I was and it felt like hockey was not for me any more, but I never knew how much I actually missed it until I started watching your non-HR content. Thank you for making hockey accessible to me again.
That watch party is at Gym Bar on West Hollywood. A gay sports bar. They do a weekly watch party. It was LIT! I'll be there again Friday night. Packing for the cottage now!
Here for HR – not skipping the ad 😜🙌🏼
BTW I know Shane comes across as oblivious but it’s canon that he’s autistic and undiagnosed per the author.
I just bought a "im coming to the cottage " cap merch store😊
Would have liked to see Babcock ask to see Shane's phone
Would like to report the Sabres already play hooked on a feeling after Ukko makes a good save also plays a lion growl after Lyon makes a good save. Go Sabres 🫡
Shane Hollander is getting sent into the shadow realm if that was Niklas Kronwall
I anticipate your recaps now just as much as I do the actual episodes.
-in the book, ilya was so happy after shane's stylist comment because he was afraid shane was about to tell him he was engaged to rose lol
-i want ilya to have more beef with scott in the show lol
