  1. I think the most incredible highlight in the video is Dave Kingman trying to bunt for a base hit.

  2. Greatest third baseman of all time and my favorite player as a kid to watch. He was a great defensive third baseman, and he hit over 500 home runs. Won the World Series in 1980 with the Phillies. Hall of Famer!!!

  3. Some of these are amazing plays, some are routine. Worth the watch but not the best editing.

  4. These games were broadcast in 4:3, please upload them without the picture being cut off

  5. If i wanted a designated 3rd baseman sure. I'd take Brooks Robinson. But if i wanted the best 3rd baseman of all time it's Schmidt.

  6. I grew up with two third baseman in my childhood.
Of course both of them never played for my Chicago White Sox. But, they were my two of my favorite Mike Schmidt, &
George Brett. Every All-Star game. You seen them both at the Hot corner. Both HOF are icons in Philly & Kansas City respectfully. As in baseball as a whole.

  7. Absolutely no one will ever beat Schmidtty's record .!!!! The greatest third baseman !!! Thank you Mike for all those fantastic years in Philly. Made us proud ❤️💪

  8. I am a 66 year old man born and raised in north Philly. I have watched a lot of great players in all the sports in Philadelphia. I believe i was one of the luckiest people ever. I watched Michael jack Schmidt from his first day with the Phillies. While most of Philadelphia was booing Mike Schmidt. I was taking a lot of abuse cause I never give up on mike and the Phillies. I was so damn lucky to watch Mike Schmidt and for the sixers DR. J. And the eagles bill bergey, Wilbert Montgomery. For the flyers Bobby Clark and Bobby Clark is the only one that I watched his whole career like Mike. Bobby Clark was and still is the hardest working player in any sport that I have seen. Mike Schmidt is the greatest 3rd baseman of all time. I saw him playing right in front of me for so many games at the vet. I couldn't believe how so many people would be booing Mike Schmidt. When they just didn't realize what they were watching. I would tell people he's the greatest 3rd baseman to ever play the game. And this was while he was still playing in the middle 70s. He was making plays on the field that I never seen and I didn't think anyone was going to get to the ball. Let alone made a play and throw the batter out. Or fake a throw and when the player on 3rd base went to run Mike would tag him out as soon as his foot came off the bag. I seen Mike do that a couple times. Mike Schmidt is the greatest 3rd baseman to ever play the game. Thank you Mike

  9. I keep hearing what a great defensive third baseman Mike Schmidt is.

    1st Play: Incredible
2nd: Why is this on a highlight video?
3rd: A good play that highlights his strong arm
4th: Why is this on a highlight video?
    5th: A good, heads-up play
6th: Difficult to tell because it's only a stub
    7th: Superb athleticism, amazing play
    8th: Well-executed barehanded catch-and-throw off a bunt
    9th: N/A (playing right field)
    10th: N/A (playing first base)
11th: Why is this on a highlight video?
12th: Why is this on a highlight video?
13th: Why is this on a highlight video?
14th: N/A (playing first base, but a very poorly executed catch)
15th: Why is this on a highlight video?
    16th: Excellent unassisted double play

I count three great plays (numbers 1, 7, and 16).

  10. No contest. Brooks Robinson was an amazing defensive third baseman. But Mike Schmidt was every bit as good and hit 180 more home runs. Best third baseman ever.

  11. Half of these plays were just average baseball plays. Why have those in the clip? As good as Schmidt was, he just wasn’t as good as Brooks defensively. He just wasn’t. Beautiful swing and better offensive numbers than Brooks, but just not in the same class defensively.

  12. Mike Schmidt will always be my all-time favorite player. He’s arguably the most consistently great slugger from the past 50 years—He won 8 home runs titles during a 14 year peak that lasted from 1974 & 1987,

Scmitty was an all-time defensive top-10 talent at the hot corner was well & he could fill in very capably at shortstop & first base as well. He was also a pretty darn good baserunner. In his youth he hit a lot of triples, was a stolen base threat & he rarely hit into double plays.

Fun fact: Mike Schmidt and George Brett were selected with consecutive picks by Philly & KC during the 1971 amateur draft. Schmidt ended his career as the best third baseman of all-time & Brett wasn’t far behind.

Schmidt and Brett are the only two third-basemen to win when MVP awards at their position in the same year (1980.) Schmidt and Brett went on to meet each other in the World Series that year with Schmidt taking home MVP honors after Philly topped KC in six games with Schmidt taking home World Series MVP honors. If KC had won, however, it’s likely Brett would have won the award—He was raking just as hard as Michael Jack was.
