They're getting old – average age of the Penguins roster is close is 30.9, having one of the oldest rosters in the league. For San Jose it's 26.8 years. San Jose's core four average age is 20. For the Penguins, the core four is averaging out at 37. That can make a huge difference late in the 3rd period and in OT. The future is Teal. GO Sharks!!!

Dan Muse had some wonders working for the team and had everyone playing we’re they are strongest for the first month and a half of the season. BUT he’s starting to make some crucial mistakes by playing some of our worst defensive defencemen(Karlsson, Letang, and Shea)in some serious defensive situations. And honestly even playing Shea with Letang over Graves and even Pickering is just asking to be scored on. Shea is overplayed and being trusted too much and makes crucial mistakes like in the video here. Rather than making a play for the puck that’s RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM, he decides to start shoving guys around. There’s been a lot of times I’ve noticed Shea lacks the defensive awareness and it’s costed us a few times. Letang is just a sad thing to see. He’s still got game left but he purely puts all of it in to being an offensive defencemen. He just doesn’t seem to have the drive to play on both ends anymore and lacks that defensive part of his game. Which is strange to me because for a time he was a hell of a two way defencemen and was even elite. At the same time he’s aging and I think that age is just catching up to him. Anyways those are some major reasons why Pittsburgh blows so many leads. We do have Graves, Wotherspoon, and even Clifton has been decent as well so I’ll include him. All those other guys are just completely ignored when they play the defence that we need and they are often sitting on the bench. It is what it is. Until Muse figures out he has to play those other guys, we’re just gonna keep blowing leads.
The penguins haven’t been a serious contender in 5-6 years, Crosby, Malkin and Letang are past their prime yet everyone still tries to convince us that they are elite
