Quinn-essota Wild ft. Elliotte Friedman & Chris Kelleher | Morning Cuppa Hockey

Morning Cuppa Hockey dives into a powerhouse episode as Jonny Lazarus and Colby Cohen welcome NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman after a wild weekend of trades. First, the Edmonton Oilers made a splash finally moving on from Stuart Skinner in a trade with the Penguins to acquire Tristan Jarry. Then, a BLOCKBUSTER trade which saw Quinn Hughes head to the Minnesota Wild. Is Bill Guerin done, or could we see more from the veteran General Manager?

Following Elliotte, Assistant General Manager of the Wild Chris Kelleher drops by the show to discuss the process of making such a big change, how difficult it was to say goodbye to Zeev Buium, and the chances we see an extension for Quinn Hughes in Minnesota!

  1. I'm a Canucks fan and I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out. With the comments of Rutherford and Hughes it seemed even last year he didn't want to be here so Canucks got rid of a player that didnt want to be here for a great return. The goal is to get young high end talent into the lineup

  2. I get that Hughes is a huge talent but, given the fact that he wasn't willing to stay in Vancouver had to hurt the Cannucks negotiating position so I don't think there was much more to be extracted in return.

  3. This is the origins story for when Johnny eventually becomes the GM for the Minnesota Wild in 30 years… such good lore

  4. lol best Jew for Jew trade lol… perfect timing, Colby needed that…and it’s embarrassing for other Canadians that people like that live in our country try!!

  5. NJD deep dive is very interesting. I think they are potentially taking a step back and saying ā€œdo we really want to be committed to $30 Million + per year on the Hughes brothersā€. For minny trading for Quinn means they have Quinn, who is pretty clearly the best of the 3 to fit in with their mostly defensive d-core, for the devils it’s a commitment to all 3 for the foreseeable future and most likely 10+ years. Luke does not look like a $9 million player or even close to it and at some point you have to ask about jacks ability to stay healthy. Not to mention adding Quinn mitigates the best qualities of Luke’s game anyway. NJD trading for Quinn has more implications than just getting him.

  6. Colby, Devils fans have been done with Fitz for a while….this is not what moved the needle for most of us. I didn't want to trade Simon Nemec for a guy who's signing here in two years anyway, Fitz's real crime is doing nothing to acquire forward help this team so desperately needs.

  7. 5:10 nah man, Quinn Hughes is either the most talented player we’ve ever had, or he’s second behind Pavel Bure. When we got Messier he was past his prime, and linden for all his heart and leadership, wasn’t as skilled as Quinn by a long shot. The Sedin’s are debatable, but I’m thinking it’s Hughes.

A three year contract is a totally reasonable prediction, I’m With you there. But Canucks did really good in this trade.

  8. Forgetting the other players involved, but it sounds like Guerin was offered Nemec and Buium and he preferred Buium. If that's the case, there really wasn't much Fitzy could do. He just didn't have the parts to better Minnesota's offer. I'm also wondering what on earth the Rangers had that would have made a deal. Vancouver got top young defense prospect, good (and young) second line center, other good young prospect and a 1st round pick. Besides the first round pick, the Rangers don't have any of those things.

  9. What an awesome show today. 10 out of 10

    Elliot is the best.
    Incredible from kelz
    Colby 10/10 rant about buium.
    Johnny on fire today specifically

  10. To not mention Pavel Bure when talking about the best players ever just shows how young you are (as you clown the other guys age)šŸ˜….92-93 and 93-94 The Russian Rocket was INSANE with b2b 60 goal seasons (with 50/47 assists also). He also was best player on team that won a series in 4 straight years in early to mid 90s including god tier 94 run to game 7 of finals vs Rangers where he had 16 goals, 15 assists and +8!

Quinn’s peak is def among GOAT Canucks (and he’s their GOAT defender), but the best player in their prime 1-2 yrs was def PAVEL ā€œRussian Rocketā€ Bure! He made the NHL Top100 team for a reason!

    Happy Hanukkah šŸ•Ž!

  11. Happy Hannukah boys!

Zeev: I"d put him in a tier with Thomas Harley and Lane Hutson.

The Zeev Nonsense: Zero room for it. Props to Colby for putting it in the dirt. Show was amazing today.
