Mathews has become the biggest floater on the leafs by far.
He’s playing like he wants to be traded.
He is not benefiting the team Witt his total lack of effort. Might be better to consider moving him for a package of players and try and salvage the season

I've been saying since after the 2018-19 season that the core 4 were never going to lead the Team to any playoff success. In that series to Boston, they led the series 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 and then lost the last 2. I just knew it then. I predicted they'd lose to Columbus and after gping up 3-1 vs Montreal I predicted they'd lose that series also. I always said the only way any of those core players wins a cup is if they get traded to a top contender – a top contender BEFORE they arrive. Marner might actually have a shot, even if he continues his game 5, 6 and 7 stunningly bad play. I was screaming to trade Marner, Matthews and Nylander when you could actually get something very very good for them in return. Marner left for next to nothing and so will Matthews, if he doesn't demand a trade before then.
Then the kept trading all the top picks and good assets at the deadline for these clowns. You need the team to show they deserve it before you blow up the future like that. Let them get to the final 4 before you make those trades the next season – Right now, we'd probably be in good shape, at the very least in prospects and young players, had we not made those trades. As it sits now, we have no future. To realistically compete for a cup, we either start the rebuild now that will probably take 9 years (because we have no top picks for the next 2) or we try and do through free agency – when nobody wants to come here for 1) an understandably inpatient fan base 2) a core that makes all the money but shouldn't etc… The future is not looking good. Prepare yourself for a Detroit / Buffalo type of playoff drought Leafs fans, it's coming. Our ONLY hope is that Connor McDavid some how actually wants to come here in July 2028… don't hold your breath on that one, especially if he still hasn't won the cup in Edmonton.

It's not just Matthews on the night, virtually the entire team sucked. I haven't seen Matthews, Bill Nylander, JT, Knies, McMann, Roy, OEL & Rielly play as poorly as they have in their last 3 games. PP1 is a masterclass in poor decisions, inaccurate passes, fumbling the puck, turnovers & missing the net completely with clean look shots taken from 20 feet out or less. If I wasn't watching it with my own eyes it would be hard to believe that these guys who I know have high skill, can be so utterly inept at this point. I don't get it. I can only think it's a confidence issue because it's affecting over half the team. OEL, who I think has been very good this season was -4, Rielly -3 & Matthews -3 in this game. They were simply one & done frequently in the O-zone & failing on coverages in the D-zone. This game could've been 7-0 if not for Hildeby. Flush it & move on.
I'm convinced he's a Vulcan or some form of robot. And to think this was the guy who did the hand to the ear gesture last game.

McMann skates around does zero, Robertson skates everywhere and nothing, Domi zero, Roy zero, Joshua still riding last game heroic performance? Matthews doing nothing. McDavid embarrasses Austin in the edm game. Matthews stands still doing zero. Totally unacceptable bullshit.. to think they only raised tickets 18% this yr. Embarrassing
