This team has an actual psychological problem when playing with a lead that dates back years now. Full seasons, multiple coaches, multiple GMs now too. I don't know how you fix that without blowing up the roster. They've now created a whole new batch of kids that have graduated from the AHL that now have this problem also. It's beyond disappointing. Blowing leads has become their identity. They wear it. They expect it. They cannot fix it.
I was debating on whether to watch the third period and I was an idiot and watched. I’m done watching these guys. At least there are 80 games so you know whatever.
I think goaltending has been their Achilles heel for the last 2-3 years. Starting to happen again.
They never recovered from the soul crushing defeat at the hands of the ducks. Wallow? They have been permanently shell shocked into paralysis.
I think the issue isn’t that they are becoming cautious, it is lack of understanding of risk management. They are up 3-0 and still attempting home run plays, when what they need is a first down… (yikes, I bet that makes sense and it uses metaphors from 2 other sports to explain a 3rd. We are weird people)
Are you throwing excuses at them? This is not a now thing!! This is 3 years of blown leads and tank jobs.. yesterday morning it was “wonderful “ that you get right back Out there, but now it’s a back to bavk??? Fatigue.. Sid is now making excuses?? Never we’ve never seen Sid literally quit like the last two OT goals that were on him.. gotta blow it up and I mean everything stopping at the 18 year olds
All teams have to learn how to win, how to finish. They'll either get it or try again next year with a few more player changes.
DK – When Malkin and Lizotte are healthy, who do you believe are the two odd-men out? I'd imagine Hayes is one.
They seem unwilling to airmail the puck out of the zone with a lead.
First off, Letang has to go. He is flat out DONE! And Karlsson needs to be on the shortest of possible leashes as well!
They play very well against some good teams they only forget to keep skating in 3rd. Schedule so tight they have no choice but to play thru it. The rookies look good though Kindel has been terrific.
Thank you DK. Perfect question, I just hope they turn this around as soon as possible. Play all three periods and don't leave up. Defense needs to go after the puck and keep it out of the zone. Great show DK
The good news is the Penguins are being super creative. The bad news is that they're super creative at finding ways to lose.
The puck support has been missing lately. They used to move up the ice in packs, now it's back to the old ways featuring odd man rushes against, icing the puck, and turnovers.
DK, J1Q, the question is simply: what does the goalie situation look like when Skinner shows up?
Some rambling rationale: I think the plan is Skinner to be the #1 but I thought Saturdays game was a huge moment for Silovs to make a statement that he belongs in Pittsburgh (with the other young goalies on his heels)
Murashov played well Sunday but didn't take the net and solidify his spot.
Who goes down when Skinner shows up? The kid bc of the waiver situation? Or has he showed enough to be the back up? Possibly all 3 stay in the shuffle for now? Another goalie trade to recoup for Silovs?
Bad times should bring out strong leadership from the veterans…not seeing it. Sid is mealy mouthed and nothing else. Very disappointing. Winning teams have better player leadership.
Good take!
How can you s**it on silovs while homering for jarry for years? Lol
they're getting worse. Suckjobs in OT and absolutely atrocious in the third period. Shilovs is not a good goalie
Jarry's licking his chops for tomorrow
brave soul for pressing play? nah, more like glutton for punishment
What seems to happen is that teams get behind in games vs the Pens, the opposition is capable of change, so they change things up a bit (ie hit more, muck it up, play desperate), they score a goal, and the Pens immediately break down.
I would say this is just a continuation of a problem spanning several years. The Pens have a lousy D, are too soft, and an assemblage of forwards who dont play good D in general..plus the old guys are getting older and the sport is getting faster. The problem is not the goalie. The team had a variation of this problem when Jarry was in goal. I think Boko should be a regular in the lineup, they should stick w. the goalies they now have and they should build a decent D..see what they can get for Karlsson, make it Letangs (my Fav Pen) last year. This current D is just bad.
Pens need BOKO to wake them up
I don't know, I start to feel some Silovs Bias here, 2 games this weekend, both following the same script, both Silovs faults even though he was not in the net for both.
Guy has his first Full NHL season and this is the home media constantly bashing on him, even in the first month when he was one of the top5 of the league.
Hope the Olympics away from the NHL will give him back his confidence 🙂
I'm still hurling at the toilet
Again….again…….again…….again…….this team needs some Herbies
I just keep wondering if the age of this team has something to do with their consistent fade in the 3rd period for a couple years now.
Blowing a 3 goal lead is better than Blowing a 4 goal lead. That's an improvement. Maybe next time they'll only blow a 2 goal lead
it is almost expected now
After having listened to you a few times now, I can only conclude you are full of sh*t and are a biased, not too knowledgeable "reporter" who will say anything that will keep him around his idols, feeling important. Good for you, but your inconsistant and inaccurate ramblings don't do it for me.
I haven't even heard the episode yet, but it's been years of massive blown leads. I haven't looked at the stats, but I bet the Pens have blown more 3+ goal leads in the past 4 years than any other team in the league.
