Donnie and Rick react to the Quinn Hughes trade, the return and the rebuild
In our opening segment Donnie and Rick shared their continued reaction to the Quinn Hughes trade on Friday, what the new Canucks showed yesterday and if the Canucks will follow through with a rebuild now.
medias need to hush about thinking its a rebuild to lose 1st Canucks management was never like that nor will it be like that we have 104 points at stake & can still enjoy a playoff run we are only 10 points behind. If Canucks management 4 rebuild was that clear we would of gotten pure 1 picks but you know what its more like a retool not a full rebuild. What Ratherford said b4 – he might of changed his mind.. that is ok. Lastly Demko clearified b4 the NJ game he is against team tank & does not play to LOSE!
True he was a bad captain but he and everybody knows he only got offered to be captain as a tricksey little play to keep him in Vancouver. So, once again, this points to bad management and a famously bad owner.

I don't blame Hughes one bit for wanting out. If Mcdavid had a brain he would have done the same thing. Why should generational talents waste their time on mediocre teams. I wouldn't if I had the choice. Both Hughes and Mcdavid have given their all to their teams they owe them nothing.
As a lifelong MN fan going back to the North Stars, I was stunned by this move. I think we've all become so accustomed to baffling trades where somebody gets hosed that seeing a move this big where both sides actually get a win out of it seems like it can't be right. We're all trying to figure out who "lost" on the trade and who got suckered by who, that not enough good takes like this one get through. You guys nailed it. The Wild paid for Quinn; they didn't try any shenanigans. Quinn is happier, and the Canucks got three sets of wheels and a pick when they were gonna have to rebuild anyway when Quinn jumped as a UFA.
Other than putting up points, what did hughes really do as a cunuck. Hd wasnt elite in the playoffs, he was not a good captain, it was his job to navigate the petterson/miller situation. He doesn't pass to petterson. And quite frankly his style Makes him difficult to play with. Vancouver potenially fleeced the Wild. And truthfully, hes soft.
Hughes carried this team on his back. Close to 30 mins/game and no one else puts in the effort. Of course he wanted to leave. Everyone else on the team sucks. .
Love Donnie Taylor🪓🧔🏻👍🏻 Love his brutally honest takes. As for having gritty Canadians on the Canucks, he should take note that future captain material Braeden Cootes is Western Canadian who was picked in the first round in the '25 draft.
As for the Hughes trade, getting Zeev Buium in the trade was like getting Hughes in the draft – a BIG bonus. Also, Buium idolized Hughea growing up.
Why does no one talk about the $5m+ of dead cap? Management has bungled extensions, trades, and free agency for a decade and the team is just not good now.
100% knew he wasn't re-signing in the summer. MIN was a team he wanted to go to and Rutherford accommodated. By letting Vancouver know he wasn't going to re-sign early, it allowed the Canucks to get way more returns than if he was a one playoff rental. We should be thanking the guy for being honest.
Nasland sounded like he gave up because of his famous speech last game of season “we blew it”. But by no means did he give up on the ice. Which is what Quinn did, he gave up on the ice. And that’s completely unCaptain.
Maybe we try and get Jack Hughes haha then Quinn and Luke will come to vancouver and everyone will be happy. We will build a statue. Life will be all good again

Henrik is better than Quit Hughes. As a captain, to quit on your team is a terrible look.

Hughes was never Captain material. Always should have been Miller. Moves were made to keep Huggy happy and he’s gone anyway.
