Kevyn Adams FIRED by the Buffalo Sabres as General Manager

The Buffalo Sabres have finally made the move fans were waiting for, firing GM Kevyn Adams after five and a half seasons leading the team’s hockey department to zero playoff appearances. Jarmo Kekalainen has been promoted as his replacement from the seat of Senior Advisor.

Adams from the outset appeared to be an underqualified man for the job and that definitely showed to be the case, with countless mistakes both in public and with hockey moves. Sneaky Joe looks back on the direction of the organization under Adams, which went from too much patience as a developing team, to bailing on a formula that worked, to never getting it right at goaltender. Plus, a look at the trade history Adams leaves behind.

  1. I would have preferred a real GM (and POHO) search. Jarmo won't be the answer, at least if you want to build a team that can win a Stanley Cup.

  2. I mainly wonder where and how much Jarmo values: Rosen, Ostlund, Kulich, Helenius.

If for whatever reason you had to rebuild those would be your young skill pieces to build around. Will he try to get them all incorporated in the next 2 years or will he trade a couple of them + Tuch away for a big big piece. We shall see.

  3. Pegula shouldn't be off the hook for this either. It should have been dont atleast a year or 2 ago. There have been so many red flags with Adams in regards to non-trades, weak or really late trades. I think your right, get rid of Staal also, in fact I know they can't just get rid of the coaching since it seems to be somewhat working but Pegula is (in my opinion) just as guilty of being so late to the game as Adams is. I don't expect UPL to be traded this season (unless a good deal comes across Jarmos desk) but I dont think he is the guy. I have 100% confidence in UPL letting in a weak goal, and letting in a goal when they really needed a big save.

  4. Congratulations fans! You managed to get a guy that built an NHL top 10 scoring team with one of the best power play kills in the league fired for: wait for it.. A guy from currently one of the only teams worse than Buffalo in the conference. 👏 👏 🎉 🎉 🎉…. How's that dopamine hit feeling guys!!?? Enjoy it for the next 3 hours 👍 🏒 💯 ⚔️

  5. The only thing even remotely surprising about this, and it's profound, is that it came two years later than it should have come. It's laughable that it took this long for this totally incompetent GM to be fired. It set this franchise, even though it was in the DUMPSTER ten years ago, behind years more.

  6. Keep comparing Adams vs Guerin of Wild ….Minn drafts Wallstedt vs Sabres pick Rosen…..Minn picks Rossi while Sabres pick Quinn……Minn fans constantly complain about Guerin…online….lol….Wallstedt was top goalie prospect out of Sweden in a generation…he is dominating this year….Rossi was key piece in Quinn trade…

  7. Adams has won every trade he made. He has drafted well. He managed contracts on a cap-limited team. Be careful what you wish for. Terry is the problem.

  8. The one thing he did well…. He drafted well. Our farm is in much better shape. Beyond that, it felt like he was afraid of moving those young guys, and every time he moved someone they starred elsewhere.. But sometimes you need to move the young talent to help stock the big club and he just seems afraid to go there.

  9. OMG, IT'S ABOUT TIME. THE SABRES LOSING STREAK STARTED WHEN HE WAS HIRED . I THOUGHT THEY WOULD NEVER LET HIM GO. ACTUALLY BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR YEARS – TRADE PLAYERS – STILL LOSE. CHANGE COACHES – STILL LOSE. ADAMS HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THIS DROUGHT –

  10. Firing Adams won't change anything. You still have pre-Adams players who are prideless and lazy. And you still have a has-been / never-was coach who has no idea how to form four lines or manage his goaltenders or hold players accountable. The NHL promotes long term futility with its ridiculous contract policies. And don't forget the Buffalo fans who enable losing by continuing to buy tickets.

  11. You gotta get Kevyn Adams on the show and see if he will talk about what really goes on in the depth of the KBC

  12. I'm really happy the Sabres moved on from Terry's JUICEBOX BOY. Hopefully Y2K will hold on to Ruff and allow him to bring in his coaching staff things could improve immediately then. Either way a lot of damage has been done to this organization so hopefully Y2K has a free leash to make moves that have made including bringing back a scouting staff. Getting rid of the same kind players that are sprinkled throughout the organization. Will see Hopefully he learned his lessons from Columbus and make the team a real team and just not a Mashup up of players.

  13. Wow, we are finally scraping off the mold. How long does it take to show you are incompetent before something happens. I would have been fired years ago! Okay, Terry, keep the changes coming if the team starts underperforming. The fans have waited far too long!!!

  14. So if there was an exhaustive search to bring Jarmo on board in May, why not just fire Adams then? It's not like you need to onboard a guy who was a GM for 12 years. Or was Jarmo already making some decisions, like the kinda weird signing of Danforth (we didn't need more 4th line guys) and Carson Meyer. I would say expect more Columbus guys now, unfortunately.
