The bottom line is, this team isn't very good. For this team to be successful, 34 and 88 need to be difference makers every night. Both were damn near invisible tonight. 97 and 29 made them look like chumps.
Sometimes ya gotta just sit back and watch with your eyes closed. Go leafs go, fingers crossed.

The team came out in the third period lazy like many other times in the past !!!! This is so madding to see this time and time again !!! If you can't get your team motivated in between periods get someone else in there that can !!! The fans pay a lot of money to watch the team play with no focus !!! Do better team !!! you owe it to the fans !!!!

I know everyone’s so hard on this team and instantly hits the panic button when they lose, but take a look at the standings, the entire division is struggling to get points. It’s not the end of the world they can literally hop right to the top spot with just a few wins

You usually win when your best players show up. The Oiler's guys did & the Leaf guys did not. Berube is right, it was a close game until Stecher scored, sadly into his own net. The late 2nd period turnover deep in the O-zone was just plain stupidity by Robertson who ought to know throwing a blind pass net front is idiot game management. 5 of the 6 Oiler goals were off absolutely needless Leaf turnovers. This how they were playing in October & into mid-November. Just dog-crap decisions & execution, poor passes, next to zero hitting & careless play all around.

He stood there behind the bench with his trademark befuddled expression while the Leafs "played" that abysmal Game 5 last year v FLA, getting steamrolled at home 6-1 in the worst playoff game I've ever seen them play and I've been watching since the 92-93 season. They somehow force a game 7…and then play EVEN WORSE at home en route to yet another 6-1 loss. Berube: "Uh yeah…we didn't play too good." 😂

They've been awful all season. The PP is garbage. Joe Woll is made of glass. Rielly is washed up and Matthews has given up. He can't skate or shoot anymore. The hardest Matthews ever played in a Leafs uniform was when he was chasing 70 goals (which he characteristically fell short of). He only ever cared about individual stats (now he doesn't care at ALL. Dude is sleepwalking out there).
The fawning Toronto media likes to say "oh, well Berube will make the team play better in the playoffs."
Nah he didn't. Also, they aren't making the playoffs this year.
Matthews has NEVER been good in the playoffs, going all the way back to his year in Switzerland where he had a good season and then mysteriously/magically turned into a shadow of his former self as soon as the postseason started.
He's had ten seasons to blow up the narrative that he can't show up when it matters and in the last year and a half he can't show up at ALL.
Blow the team up. Trade them all and collect draft picks. The team is going to get worse and worse over the next 2.5 seasons and then enter a lonnnnnnng rebuild (8-10 seasons). Might as well get some draft picks so the Leafs can one day ice a team that doesn't play garbage-ass hockey in the postseason.

Most of the lineup were playing with the flu bug. They had NO energy and a Timeout or Pulling the goalie sooner would not have made any difference. If this team had no flu bug they would have won tonight EVEN with all of the injuries. The Leafs ARE starting to turn things around. This is only their 2nd regulation loss in the month of December. The loss was NOT tactical tonight. They lost because of the flu bug

A rebuild/retooling is needed but this organization doesn’t have the balls to trade Papi and every other tangible asset outside of Knies, Beaat, and Cowan.

So where is the problem? Ahl team scared to lose. Terrible team. Toooooo many times you hear leafs have the puck oh turn over. Ice the puck regain in face off. Centers have to be better. Habs won 24 cups playing that way puck possession is key. If you have the puck most of the time the other team doesnt score. Give the puck up is leafs biggest problem. Just listen on radio. And count the times and goals off it
