  1. This is a rebuilding trade for Penguins, plus they get Jarry off the books. This is not a hockey trade.

  2. So Jarry is finally playing with his head out of his ass for the first time in like 4yrs and Pitt decides to trade him??

  3. I think the most interesting part of this trade is going to be how they both do (Jarry and Skinner). Because if Skinner excels, then we know it was not on him as much as Oilers fans want to out on him. If Jarry excels, then We know it was on Skinner..

If both excel, well then everything worked out lol.

  4. Hopefully this will muzzle years of Oilers goaltending talk every single day since at least Koskinen/Smith (but I doubt it). That team should have kept Talbot, and Broissoit had potential. For as weak as they are right now, the Flames at least have a goalie of the present/future.

  5. The day Shannon realizes the Oilers have pylons & turnover machines for defenceman & goaltending was never their biggest problem… is when he'll realize this was a fleece by Pittsburgh. Lets call a spade a spade, its a meh for meh trade and in that meh-ness Id rather keep Skinner than Jarry any day

  6. I don’t think it’s a coincidence we saw 2 huge moves today, and I don’t think van and Edmonton are done I think we see jarry/howard or hutson for demko at some point

  7. Pens traded 2 assets inckuding a decent goaltender for a single, unknown unreliable goaltender in one of Crosbys last years. What a shame. What makes it worse is that Jarry isn't even that much of an upgrade for Edmonton but Skinner is just bad enough to drop the Pens out of that wildcard spot.

  8. Oilers go from someone with a bunch of playoff experience but some terribly slow regular season starts to a guy who's had a pretty nice bounce back from a tough year last year.
Pittsburgh gets a guy who's used to playing in big games, has a ton of experience in pressure games (even if he's not always successful), and knows what it's like to play with all-world talent.
A very apple for an orange trade, but I genuinely believe that Jarry could be someone like Wallstedt in MN: a buoyant journeyman with more potential than Skinner.
I think the Oilers saw what we've all seen: Skinner & Pickard just aren't the 1-2 punch they need right now.
And the further they get into the season without consistency, the tougher it gets to bounce back.
Edmonton is in the playoffs right now, but there are still plenty of threats to take them out and plenty of scrappy teams that aren't point siphons like years past.
The more resilient teams like Utah, Seattle, Chicago, and SJ are, the tougher it'll be for the Oilers to emerge. That, and not playing the Kings (a team they seem to have broken in the postseason) could be too steep a hill to climb.

  9. huh. I guess the pens are rebuilding at long last…?

well, maybe not. I guess I'll have to keep an eye out to see who fits better where….. maybe..maybe…

  10. Jarry under rated. When healthy he is a perfectly fine starring goalie and more talented than far too inconsistent Skinner. Aside from the health risk, this is a good gutsy move.

Yes, Jarry's soft playoff stats are largely because he's played while injuries in his few appearances in the dance.

Defense might be the real problem with the Oilers now but a locker room jolt might not be a bad thing for the team.

  11. Dubas will flip Kulak at the trade deadline and fleece a team like he did last season when he picked up Luke Schenn and flipped him.

  12. The pens do well here: They can either let them walk or flip them at the deadline if they play somewhat decent. Skinner is just a placeholder for Murashov/Blomqvist and gives them even more cap space at the end of the season. Getting a second round pick for a goalie you waived a year prior is good asset management

  13. Pittsburgh hands down won the trade. Edmonton is getting worse again fixing nothing. Skinner will do much better in Pittsburgh. He got blamed for the bad defence in front of him.

  14. They lost kulak who has been better than nurse and Bouchard that is the part of the trade that hurts !!

  15. Looking at the comments today Oilers haters legitimately might be the least creative, funny, and educated on the things they're hating of any team's haters.

  16. I think Oilers will pick up one of Laurent Brossoit or Alex Lyon potentially as a backup then it looks a bit better

  17. Letang and Karlsson in front of you…. Best of luck Skinner.
At least in Edmonton it was just Bouchard.

  18. This is a big move for the Oilers. Hope it works out for them… I know goaltending has been a consistent problem for them.

  19. Jarry better meet his defense at the press conference, because the only time he is going to see them after that is when they are fishing the puck out of his net and apologizing.
