The difference is Blackwood was playing well on a terrible Sharks team. Jarry was on waivers. So they trade 2 UFAs and a pick for a goalie arguably not better than what they had that has 2 years left on his contract. Ok
The issues I have always had with Stu was these: 1. Yes, not good with his stick. Ever seen him poke check? I havent. 2. Not good with the puck. We have seen it. Does he have any move except throw the puck around the wall? It's the same every time he gets it. 3. He holds pucks for in zone face offs too much. Move the puck Stu! A face off in your own zone is not a good thing. 4. Relies too much on his size. He doesnt move side to side that well. How many times does he square up to a person from an angle and that d-man passes it by him for an easy tip or damn close to an easy goal cause he doesnt react side to side well? 5. His competitiveness. Hard to gauge. Goalies are a wide range of characters. We have seen all styles win in the league. From crazy Roy types to level headed ones like Brodeur. I feel Skinner is too hard on himself. Questionable confidence. While some people think the way he shook off a bad game was a postive thing, I thought that he was never angry about his play. His compete level felt different. I want to see some passion. Heck, get mad at your defense if they srent doing his job. He never really sulked or complained like mike Smith could. Be he wasnt aggressive when he needed to be.
6 and most important. And is the on ice performance against good teams. His record was horrible against playoff teams during rhe regular season. I would argue all day it was the defense who shut down teams like !Dallas in the playoffs. Bottom line: Skinner didnt steal games. Bobrovsky stole games and was player of the game. Even when skinner had a run of shutouts, I thought it was defense was great. It wasnt skinner being rhe difference maker.
Finnnnaaalllyy someone mentioned the puck handling. The bottom line is Skinner was one of the worst puck handling goalies in the league and countless times it cost them. Florida's forecheck probably looks different with a goalie that helps the dump in forecheck they deploy if we have a good puck handling goalie. I mean Jarry ain't Mike Smith but anything beats Skinner and it's a big deal for our D.

Were supposed to be trying to make the team better. This is like unloading to tank
