John Gibson shutout, Quinn Hughes being linked to the Detroit Red Wings… wild times in Hockeytown!
Tune in as we start by recapping Detroit’s latest two wins, starting with a 4-0 victory over Quinn Hughes and the Vancouver Canucks, including John Gibson’s best game in the Winged Wheel, excellent performances from Axel Sandin-Pellikka, Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, James van Riemsdyk, Elmer Soderblom, J.T. Compher, Michael Rasmussen, Dylan Larkin, Andrew Copp, and more Red Wings. Next, a nail-biting 4-3 victory over Nazem Kadri and the Calgary Flames, including Gibson’s performance, Simon Edvinsson’s injury, Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat showing their mind-meld yet again, Axel Sandin-Pellikka’s offensive game emerging, Raymond and Larkin, an almost goalie fight between Cooley & Gibson, & plenty more.
Next, we take a look at just how well the DeBrincat-Copp-Kane line has been playing, Cat’s goal pace, Kane’s milestones, what it means for guys like Kasper and Danielson down the roster, and how it takes pressure off the Finnie-Larkin-Raymond line.
After that, our updated reports on what we’re hearing in the Quinn Hughes saga, including heightened interest from Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings, whether a potential return would include someone like Carter Bear, if Yzerman would need an assurance of an extension from Hughes & Pat Brisson, & more.
All of that & lots more, including a note on Carter Bear’s World Junior Championship Team Canada training camp invitation, before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment – enjoy!

First — LETS GO RED WINGS! Seider for the Norris. Hughes isn't the move. Hope Edvinsson is ok. Love you guys and happy holidays!
Love the show boys. Keep up the great work!
It’s like you guys knew I was about to clean the house
Wings on a heater, Oilers on a skid. Gotta say I’m cautiously optimistic for the game tonight. Which means it’ll probably end in disaster, but hey ho.
No need to apologize to gibson til he finishes the season over .900
I thought we had lost Brad there from 3:05 to 3:45… stay with us bro!
Love the subtle slide at Kipprusoff
Wow these Detroit hockey guys are like bag of pucks. Don't no shit 😂😂😂
ASP, and edvinson are non-starters we can give up Holl, Haninick, berggren, and a first round pick in the 26 and 27 draft
How long is Hronek staying in Vancouver? I could see them moving on from him and wanting to add ASP.
Imagine ASP playing and practicing with Quinn Hughes everyday and what that could do for him
You guys remember when Copp was the 2C last year and looked great before he got injured? I'm glad the team finally remembered. Should have done this a long time ago
For the record: Tage Thompson is not having a great year. He's having a fine year but he's also -13.
I hope there's not a dman involved in this potential Quinn trade. We got two quality dmen and a future in ASP. If we trade one of em for Quinn, we still have only 2 quality dmen, 3 if ASP is traded but no future quality. It's seems 1 step forward, 1 step back. Better not trade Augustine either.
I hope Philly or NJ wins the trade battle, starting to like this idea less and less. We already wasted a 1st rd pick on Zadina, this is crazy.
Can confirm that this the best start DET has had in the month of December from 12-01 to 12-11 dating back to the 2015-2016 season when they went 4-0-2. If they win tonight you'd probably have to go back further.
Edit: You have to go back to 2007-2008 season to get a better December start when they were 5-0-0. The full 07-08 December record they were 12-2-1.
The qb you guys were thinking of was Andy Dalton. I’m a bengals fan and that is 100% true.
DO NOT GIVE THE FUTURE AWAY!…For a player the Wings might have for 1.5 years.
Played against Cleveland growing up was never that great always been a douche he only made ntdp cause his dad died played against him in the game he got scouted was the 8th ranked player on the ice
Robocoppin at showtimes pace 🤣
They better get Hughes because they have very good players but no Superstars. Just wait until teams are healthy fighting for a playoff spot and the choking happens. They have been lucky and things are easier right now. When things get hard say goodbye to to the Norris talk, again!!! I'm right every season and the Mo fans disappear just to show up again next season when things are easier saying the exact same things. Reality!
After these last two games Gibson and Talbot have the same save percentage at .884. I think both should be able to get up over .900 and remain there as the season goes on.
Go bills! (From utica ny)
Hughes on the PP would make them so dangerous whereas Mo is SLOW on the PP.
100% agree on no D for Hughes. Doesn’t make sense to me you’d be filling one hole on defense while opening up another different hole on the d corp
keep it up guys loving the show lately
do not want to trade big futures for a 1.5 year contract . then if he agree's to sign its at highest cap hit possible , not interested . ecspecially with a roster thats not ready to contend this or next year
How many times has Detroit been in a game where they were on the losing end of the Calgary game? We've lamented for years watching better teams play their B game and still win. Take the regulation win and move on.
Lomberg is a UFA at the end of the season!
Gibson has played a good couple games while being one of the worst goalies in the NHL most of the season thus far. No need to apologize
I think you have gained 100 subscribers on this west coast road trip
the name you are looking for Ryan, is Andy Dalton
Are we at all concerned about Quin Hughes injury history? Correct me if I'm wrong but he has only played one full season (COVID yr aside)
Devils need Cap space to make room for Hughes, Dougie Hamilton to Detroit for 2nd and Buium
All i want for xmas is a better third pair. How is it we have like 6 3rd pair defenseman and we can't get any of them to at least just hold their own
"Water is wet, the sky is blue
Women have secrets
Canucks have locker room issues."
-Joseph Cornelius Hallenbeck
I’ll die on this hill. Would I like Quinn Hughes to join the Red Wings and sign long term? Yes. Am I willing to give up 1 of our young centers to make it happen in Kasper or Danielson to make it happen? No way. I didn’t go through 8-9 seasons of a rebuild to get these young assets on defense and at center to just give them away for a team that hasn’t even made the playoff yet. This teams youth is starting to come together and make an impact. Larkin is 29, he’s not going to be a 1C forever. Young Centers are impossible to find. I would rather trade someone like ASP or if I had to Edvinsson for Hughes and futures just for the fact it’s essential a one for one player swap.
They better bring up Cossa at some point this year and give him a legit chance, not just 1 or 2 games. He’s been the best Goalie in the AHL, what else does he have to do?
Commenting after the Edmonton game.
Yet another game where Kasper sets up his linemate with an empty net and Nate didnt score. I really think he's only playing a little worse than last season and not this drastic fall off. His luck has been unreal (in the worst way imaginable)
Sultry? 👎
Is Johanson a piece you add to send a left hand D back that is NHL ready
Jarry going to Edmonton is the first real hockey trade of the season.
Best goalies in Edmonton history:
Mike Smith 2020-2022 .913 / 2.70
Cam Talbot 2016-2019 .912 / 2.74
Devan Dubnyk 2010-2014 .910 / 2.88
Jarry career stats: .909 / 2.74
Place your bets now folks, Edmonton solved its goaltending issues and is winning the cup!
Tired of seeing Edvinsson not looking left for opposing forwards crashing the net.
Guy really has a blind spot for trying to at least get in position before someone else does.
