We know they can pass and pass and pass. How about just shooting it at the opposition net. A dirty goal counts just as much as a pretty goal. Also need a little more urgency getting to the puck in the defensive zone. The opposition see them sauntering toward a free puck and get on their horse and grab it first.

Looks bad on Bouchard but there was 3 sabres in deep and Thompson had cut off the pass to Ekholm. He could have been quicker with the puck, sure, but where is the support?
Scheiflie could probably play better defense than Bouchard too

Bouchard zones out quite often during games. Smh…Refs said the Sabres touched the puck on that dump in by Eckholm…the NHL has to get the Hand Pass rule sorted…Scheifele over Bouchard? Please explain.

Ask Tyson Barrie, Oilers head coach played him as role player. Bouchard is the same. If you can't defend, you get PP minutes
Makar had a mistake just like that against the Stars that led to them being out in the playoffs. This one mistake should mean absolutely nothing, Bouch was very bad the first 10 games or so, the rest of the team was bad aswell, now he has 18 points and +11 with great metrics in the past 14 games. 1 mistake made because he's looking to make a difficult high-skilled play shouldnt matter.
They just need to convert Bouchard to a forward. Dude isnt a defenseman by ANY stretch of the word lol. Dont matter how many points you put up when youre a total defensive liability
As long as the Oilers continue to see no problem with Mr. Casual Bouchard & The Sieve Skinner, they will never get a cup with McDavid.
You cannot make a non-biased assessment of any Individual Player unless and until you have 100% System knowledge and acumen along with a substantial sample size of a particular Coaching Teams productivity or lack thereof as a baseline to work off of. All ex-NHL Players are taught what you and I are taught about Hockey that theres an Offense and a Defense within the game…things are broken down into smaller pieces by the Coaches so Players do not get overwhelmed by the bigger picture as they are trying to execute their duties….same dynamic as a General not telling his Footsoldiers the whole Battle Plan — there is simply no need……once the System has been split in half and broken into managable parts called Offense and Defense then Individuals can be encouraged to become "Specialists" within the group without feeling like they are missing out on anything by being Pigeon-holed within the worlds most Free-Spirited offensively designed and quicksilver fluid Sport…….as a result we ALL become 1-dimensional thinkers within the game itself….we choose one way or the other to see the game….Pros are 100% brainwashed or they would never make the NHL….if you do not understand your role within your Teams System in the NHL 100% you will not make it…this is why all we ever hear about from ex-NHLers is "defense" –"defense"….lol lol lol ….or "Offense" –"Offense"….you see how it works ….once a Coach does this to a young Players mind everything becomes East is East and West is West and never the twain shall meet…..
Coles Notes version…. If you are not Managing the System and every player within it you have zero evidence upon which to make any type of legitimate fact based performance based Analysis or Judgement of any given Individual, that information is solely in the Possesson of the Coaches who will not share it for obvious reasons… therefore we have to "trust" that Knoblauch gives Players leashes long enough for them to do their System dictated duties( Only Knobber knows each Players Duties– we all just phuckin think we know especially the many many clueless ex-NHLers Podcasting online these days lol lol lol )…some players will have long leashes and will and up crapping in places others cannot so they may get noticed more…but that doesnt mean they are crapping MORE than the other dogs just because they have longer leashes….lol lol lol …its just the optics that occur when you do not have the Masterplan to follow to keep it all making sense. Some of us expect to see dogs crapping around the Neighborhood with regularity but if we suddenly only see 1 dog who seems to be shitting under our kitchen window every morning it starts to piss us all off and our Toast just doesnt taste the same anymore ….but we dont realise that its just the optics its not the poor dogs fault and toast is just toast……hes just doing what dogs do man….
Bouchard has great offensive skills and brings a lot to the team because of that. Unfortunately defensively he is often a spectator: playing soft and looking for an easy poke check instead of taking the man. This costs the team over and over again.
People who think Bouchard is a net negative fail the hockey litmus test and it shows in this comment section. He’s a top 10 dman
Bouch needs to be removed from the NHL. He is a professional leech, relying on the ACTUAL talent of those around him to get points. Beyond that, he is the worst defenseman in the league—which is not an exaggeration. Id call him a pylon, but it's more like he's actively trying to help the other team out.

Bouchard is more of a liability than an asset! If it wasnt for his offence he'd be – 20 ! he seems like he isn't very bright ! It didn't click that McDavid and Draisaitl in the corner with 2 Buffalo players already didn't need bone head to rush in to help which in turn left the 3rd Buffalo player wide open! The one job Bouchard had was to defend the net and he failed again ! Oilers are not a very good team with overpaid bums making minor league mistakes on defence ,If i were management Bouchard would be on his way ,along with Nurse,both are bad contracts

Team Canada needs exactly defensemen that’s great offensively to quarter back the power play. The rest should be elite shutdown d-men. With the fire power in the forward group there’s absolutely no need for defensemen that have an offensive upside but are the greatest on defence. I’d take Chris Tanev over Bouchard everyday if the week for team Canada if he’s healthy. Dude never had a defensive break down and eats pucks for breakfast. Always near the top in blocked shots.

What about the obvious hold at center ice near the end of regulation? Would have put Buffalo on the PP and probably should have never gone to overtime. The refs gave Edmonton a point in the standings.
