I wish Chmelar had been kept on the Rangers 4th line. The Rangers could have used him last night when Olivier of Columbus was bullying everyone in sight. While he isn't yet ready to take on a skilled fighter like this, a vengeance beatdown of another Columbus player would have sent a message. Not a fan of Carrick having to take on the enforcers in Rempe's absence.
I'm not sure about the current coaching staff on the Wolfpack. Gabe was going to produce no matter what. Then the drop off after that tells it all. I'm also not pleased, by the role the rangers are forcing Gabe into. He's the type of player, that needs around 18 plus minutes a game. He's also the type of player that performs better, when the offense goes through him. Haven't seen that yet with him, in the three games played. This was my biggest concern about with the Rangers calling him up and not allowing him to do what he's best at. Which is as of right now, a solid playmaker with a scoring touch if need be.
The Pack was dreadful last year on the PK & they are replicating that this year. They gave up 3 more PP goals last night to Laval. Mostly I believe it has been Dowling & Sykora on the PK. Boyko is not AHL quality. Othmann seems to have played better in the last couple of games, but the Pack lost some of their AHL vets, like Belzile & Groulx, which has weakened them significantly. Also not having Laba & Perreault there makes them weaker. Also missing Robertson who was great for them last year. Aspinal seems to be a player to keep an eye on.
Does it really matter what the prospects do? Chris Drury will sign a bunch of average players in the offseason and the prospects will not get the opportunity they need. They will flounder as they always do and we will continue to watch a bunch of slow 30 somethings play average hockey.
