  1. Although he didn't start there , I've always considered EJ to be an Av . Consistent performer every game .
I was pleased he got at least one Stanley Cup during his career .

  2. One of my favourive Avs of a time. For a good period there, he was easily Colorado's best defensive player. I remember watching the 2016-17 season, and as an Avs fan it was so frusterating to see him single handedly drag the Avs defense to looking simply awful rather then one of the worst ever, only to get hurt and my god… you do not want to know how bad we looked without him in the lineup.

  3. EJ is an absolute gem and my favorite player. I'm lucky to have watched him play for his career. I've never met him (obviously) but he seems like a legit wholesome human being. EJ is a 🐐 in my eyes

  4. He was always going to be overshadowed by Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin but it's nice he was able to have a solid career and able to lift the Stanley Cup.

  5. One of the guys that stuck it out through the dark days and glad he got to lift Lord Stanley for it. Enjoy retirement EJ!

  6. FLY CONDOR FLY!! He will always be one of my favorite Avs of all-time. Fantastic dude and I hope he stays in broadcasting for a long time. Thanks for making this, Shannon!

  7. Never knew much about this player at all…. He was never considered a good Dman I guess. Good video….. especially for a defensive defenceman

  8. Love EJ! Go Avs! Hoping to see him join more broadcasts as he’s got a great personality and fantastic insights!

Already used my 3 YouTube ā€œhypesā€ on your other videos this week. I’ll have to come back next week to give this one a bump when I get another! šŸ¤˜šŸ»

  9. Towards the end of his time in Colorado, before he went to buffalo, he was the longest active tenured athlete in all of Colorado sports.
And when he knew the Avs weren’t going to re-sign him he paid for full page in a Denver paper to thank the city of Denver the fans.
    Class act guy all around

  10. My first EVER favorite hockey player. I remember seeing him in Colorado as a kid and loving him. Got my first ever real sports jersey for my 12th birthday and it was an Avs EJ one. It was huge on me back then but I grew into it. Not in great shape anymore, but I still have it and wear it from time to time

  11. If only the Blues drafted Toews over Johnson. Or like so many other great players who came out of that draft class.

  12. I adore EJ. He’s such a class act and a wonderful interview. That 20-21 ā€˜upper body’ injury was really bad concussion related issues, and he almost retired that summer of 2021 before deciding to come back the next season. And thank goodness he did come back, he was directly responsible for the game winning goal of the St Louis series (he had the 2nd assist of that beautiful Helm goal, if I’m not mistaken), getting the Avs past the second round and on to winning the Cup. Love this guy. So glad he’s sticking around the Avalanche and doing a little broadcasting now, too.

  13. I was there at the Draft in Vancouver when he went #1. I remember Ovechkin came on stage and Selected Backstrom for the Capitals. It was cool

  14. Never the most talented guy on the ice, but always one of the best off of it. I don't know a single Avs fan that didn't adore EJā¤šŸ’™

  15. He tore up his knee in that stupid golf cart accident, players jacking around stupidly. He was never the same after that, he was such a dynamic skater and I don't know if it never healed fully, or it changed his stride. He could of been special.

  16. After he won the Cup, he was the only player who brought it back to the fans. He could’ve taken it anywhere, back to his hometown or whatever else he would’ve wanted, but he spent half the day taking it to us fans in the Denver area. He was supposed to go inside Family Sports and let us walk by and say hi and see the Cup behind a barrier, and instead he of his own accord got out of the car with the Cup and carried it all the way down a very long, zigzagging line of fans that went all the way through the parking lot and beyond around the building, then carried it all the way back again to the car and raised it in front of us as we chanted for him. I got to touch the Cup twice. It was unreal. Even during the playoff run he never stopped emphasizing how important the fans were and how instrumental they were to the team’s success. At the Cup rally he took the mike and said, ā€œDenver! WE did it!ā€ He made me feel like I mattered. He was such a class act, still is. He never stopped being grateful to the team, the fans, everyone.

Shortly before he retired, he was trying to make the team by working his butt off in practice. I waited outside the practice facility, by the public exit, hoping he would come out. I had made a sign after he got traded back to the Avs, to welcome him back, but I never got to show it to him at a game, because he always never happened to be playing. I was the only fan out there, but I waved the sign around as he got in his car and sat there a bit. He could’ve gone out the private exit, but he came out to see me and autograph my sign instead. I could tell by his face and his eyes that he was exhausted, but he still came out for a faceless fan like me.

I probably don’t have to explain why he is one of my all-time favorite players. I’m so thankful that he considers Colorado his home now and has no intention of leaving. I would love to see him get a regular, full-time position with the Avs at some point (he already sometimes does color commentating for the radio broadcast). He also belongs in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame for what he has meant to the Avs and the fans. I would also retire his #6. No one else should wear that.

  17. EJ was amazing in Philly. Was a fantastic addition by GMDB. Glad he was able to go home to retire. 🫔🫔 (and yes, Colorado was his home)

  18. I'm surprised since the avalanche lost he didn't put on Nashville's jersey for this video too
