Hodgson charging on Ferraro – Tough Call Recommendation

Hayden Hodgson was given a minor penalty for charging on Mario Ferraro. High degree of violence. Significant head contact. High degree of avoidability. I really don’t see how he avoided suspension here.

  1. I don't understand why players go high making a hit. There's no reason that shouldn't have been pure hip to hip and shoulder to shoulder. The elevation means the forearm is going to go into the side of Ferraro's head and drive it into the boards. I don't like this type of hit and agree that it should be a more severe penalty. Players should be trained not to hit like this, and punished more if they do. However, a double-minor or a 5-minute major should suffice, IMO. If that doesn't deter such tactics in coming seasons, then I would be open to a one-game suspension, maybe more, depending on the severity of the hit and/or if the player has a history of such hits.

  2. You should do the same thing for football, boxing and mma. They’re too violent. Punching someone in the head during a boxing match should get you 20 fight suspension, it’s intent to injure.
