Should the Montreal Canadiens explore a trade to bring Phillip Danault back to Montreal? In today’s video, we break down why Danault’s name has resurfaced, whether he’s still a fit for the Habs, and what a realistic trade package might look like.

We look at how Danault would impact the Canadiens’ centre depth, whether his style still matches what Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton are building, and how his contract and role with the LA Kings factor into any potential deal.

We also discuss what a reunion could mean for players like Suzuki, Dach, and the next wave of Habs prospects. Would Danault help accelerate the rebuild—or block development?

Chapters include:
🔹 Why Danault is in the rumour mill
🔹 Pros & cons of a Canadiens reunion
🔹 Possible trade scenarios
🔹 Impact on Habs lineup and cap space
🔹 Final verdict: Should Montreal do it?

If you’re a fan of Montreal Canadiens trade rumours, roster debates, and in-depth analysis, this one’s for you.

  1. Danault as a 3rd center would be great, left hand, good in faceoffs, good penalty killer. Habs are struggling in faceoffs and PK.

  2. Why are people negative about Kapanan? Remember that Arturi Lekkenan took a few years to develop and we were sad to see him go.

  3. Evans and Veleno are 4th line centers. This is the 4th year of the Dach experiment at center which has been a bust. No problem with Danault as a short term stop gap to give the position some stability unless he's lost a step.

  4. With due respect, Kapanen is not a 3rd center, he is average in faceoffs and he's not good in the PK.
Habs must find a productive RW for Demidov and Kapanen, Texier doesn't belong there.
Habs also need a good lefthanded center for the 3rd line that wins faceoffs and kills penalties.
Dach and Newhook are wingers, not centers.

  5. what's not to like about Kapanan and his ability to be a true 2C. He's a rookie!!!! Playing on the penalty kill and powerplay on a pace to score 23 goals. As a rookie!!! He's only going to get better. How many 2C rookies could say this??? How many 2Cs now are on a 23 goal pace and are effective penalty killers? I know you want flash but that's Demidovs job. You have a finisher and defensively responsible forward

  6. Please no, we all know coach would over play him, top pp, overtime, have him out when we need a goal and he dosent score, just like Gally, and the kids ice time will suffer, so please no .

  7. Danault had his chance . And left …don't want him back . He is NOT what the Habs need …not now …not in the future

  8. I think he’s a better option and fit than O’Reilly and a better contract than Kadri.

There aren’t many good options out there. At least Phil would fill an important role and provide a significant upgrade to Veleno.

  9. I don't hate the idea of adding Danault (for a low cost), but I'd rather see an aggressive offer for Thompson, or possibly a similar offer for both Tuch and McCleod (what that offer would look like, I don't know)

  10. Danault for Dach would be OK. Small hit on payroll. Big plus for our PK and flexibility. I believe that Danault would be OK for the next 18 months.
I not sure LA would go for it.

  11. No the habs need to focus on getting rid of guys and make cap room for next season free agency . Hughes should be doing everything he can to move gallagher and set the defence , get rid of Carrier and replace him with someone physical

Laine , Dach ,gallagher , Carrier , texier , Monty and Veleno all need to be replaced , too much money and waste of spaces . All these guys could easily be upgraded

  12. Danault could be an awesome 3rd line center until we get the true second line center. Kapanen could be the 3rd line center in 18th months.

  13. The way Anaheim , Sam Jose , chicago ,Philly and Utah have rebuilt, the habs better forget about the cup for the next 15 years , that’s what happen when you waste 5th overall on guys like reinbacher , honestly Anaheim is scary , by next season they’ll be better than colorado .

  14. Having Danault between gally and Anderson on the 3rd would be great for the next year and a half. A true veterans shut down line and Danault is very good in the circles as well as on the PK. In a perfect world we would sneak in Laine/Veleno in the trade.

  15. I have zero interest in the Habs wasting assets on Phil Danault with his $5.5mil salary and his massively declining play

  16. Strubble and Laine against Danault anytime of the week.

Danault is an all-star third line center and he would do a tremendous work with Newhook and Bolduc.

Dach could finaly play at wing with Kapy and Demidov.

Don't touch Kapy, he is DOING GREAT.
