Montreal may be a team of shrimps, but at least they play entertaining and good hockey. Their re-build as compared to how the Leafs have done the past 6-9 years will result in positive results down the road. Like Chicago, Montreal has not saddled itself with gargantuan contracts for 2-4 players, they have drafted well and traded well for the most part. The Leafs, don't make me laugh. They drafted quite reasonably when they stunk, but the chickens have come home to roost for them. Bad drafts, bad trades, bad management, have all resulted in Toronto wasting the prime years of Matthews, Nylander, Really and Marner. And without number one picks in the next two drafts, they are set to become a lottery team with anohter re-build coming.
Rielly's still developing, that shot of his will improve. And if Matthews' back is truly to the point where he is anywhere close to retirement, you'd think there'd be some major load management going on, what conceivable sense does it make to have him killing penalties and taking defensive zone faceoffs?

He's done this in junior a million times and Montreal has no scouting on him. He has nifty hands and would have probably scored.
As usual, the BS analysis has inspired me to add a comment and I would start by saying that if Morgan Really can’t body check anymore he should be traded to a team like Vancouver (which he would likely agree to). A few games ago he tackled a guy onto himself instead of driving him into the boards and ended up getting a penalty. Although he may still have offensive skills the opportunity for using them is very limited on this Leaf team and his play on the PP is too predictable. Leafs should mix things up by starting the PP with the second unit occasionally and giving other players an opportunity to shoot the f-ing puck on the net. I agree with some of the comments from this BS analysis that Montreal has done a much better job than the leafs at rebuilding their team and weeding out an overpriced core. Guys like Really would be gone if they were playing for the Canadiens. When the Canadiens were eliminated from the playoffs last year it was largely because no one on their team stood up to Tom Wilson after he levelled one of their left wingers while the score was still close. It appears to me that the Canadiens have more grit this year which you need to survive in the playoffs. IMO it’s good that Marner and Shanahan are no longer around but what have the Leafs done to improve the grit? Washington walked all over them recently.
