  1. Very good day-now we don't have to inch towards February thinking ya either gotta sign him or find another deal that brings back a similar caliber player-so you remain with as good of chance to win this year. But even if ya found that trade the chemistry wouldn't be the same this year. I think the Avs made a lot of wise trades,& decisions last year INCLUDING THE MICO TRADE. But so many changes,& lack of time playing together-i really think made a difference in the biggest moments vs Dallas. I don't think they choked but I do think trying to protect or extend. 1 goal,3rd period leads in games 2,& 3…or win in OT in those same games…culminated in trying to protect or extend 2-0 lead in game 7…I think that did bite us,& lack of cohesion & familiarity did cost us in the biggest of moments.

Subconsciously ya just aren't as sure in the highest of stress moments. And while Dallas had Mico who was new-most of their team had been together for a few years-through a few WCF runs,& I think that did make a big difference in the closest of series. Hopefully this yr-we can get to the deadline not HAVING to do anything-like figuring out Necas situation could've turned into. But get there with the only goal of complimenting,& improving what you already have-with 1 or 2 minor or ancillary additions. A 6th or 7th defenseman &/or maybe a bottom 6 winger or center. But not having to swap out both goalies, trade a top 10-15ish guy for a younger, top 30ish guy (& ya also added an elite 4c in Drury-whos doing good at 3C so far). Point is -that was a lot of change even though I liked almost all of the moves. And it just made it tougher to be 100% cohesive in the playoffs.

Now it still shouldn't have mattered vs Dallas. 1 more PP goal…or really 1 more goal period,& AVS win that series in 5 or 6. But even if they win that series -as they totally should have-I think that lack of cohesion & familiarity would've caught up to them. They weren't winning the Cup if they beat Dallas. I don't think it would've caught up to them vs WPG but would have in WCF against Edmonton or certainly in the Finals vs Florida-the ultimate cohesive team. I would've felt a lot better about WCF or Cup Final loss but maybe all this actually gives them a better shot at the ultimate goal of winning it all this year-which in hindsight-just wasn't gonna happen last yr.

It's so early,& injuries/trade deadline for not only us-but rest of the West will determine,& possibly change so much. But getting this done today was a huge step forward I believe,& gives the AVS a better chance to make a deep run. It also frees up Necas mentally. I didn't think you had to get something done now but I totally believed you had to trade him if he wasn't signed by the deadline. You couldn't go into the playoffs & summer with him about to become a free agent,& the added anxiety & stress that brings on top of playoff pressure-both for him,& the organization. And now all the simplistic,& nonsensical-Mico vs Necas comparisons-or "you could've signed Mico for $500,000 more"-which is way simplistic & probably not even true. Those idiots can beat that drum now for a few days,& it'll be an afterthought when it matters in February…& April.
