  1. Yes: he has one of the most definitive jabs among the pantheon of boxing greats–for sure, but, you are wrong in your technical assessment of Holmes' jabbing style. He DID NOT throw a power jab; his was an open fist that he halfclosed on impact. As he himself has explained in numerous interviews, his intention was to beat the other man to the punch, so he wanted his jab to get there as quickly as possible. This, of course, cannot be accomplished with a closed fist or tense musculature; it must be whipped out.

And that was the strength of his telltale punch: its whipping effect. Not a shotgun jab, like Marvelous Marvin Hagler's or Ike Quartey's, but, rather, a quick sharp snapping whip of a jab, which, from his elongated frame and lead hand, made for an especiallly effective weapon.

  2. Yeah, he really did. He could flick it with great speed from down low, power it in like a piston from low or high and even almost jab like a hook in a 1-2-3 combination like a lot of european fighters did. He had the best of alis jab and foremans power jab. Lennox lewis was probably the closest second.

  3. I think Ali's jab a pretty damn hard to beat, not to mention Larry learned it from Ali, so I disagree with you it's not the greatest in history.

  4. Let me tell u again Ali had the best Jab in history that first Ali Frazier fight, the Ali lost that Jab put Frazier in the hospital two weeks and the thrilla on Manila Ali jab was the reason they stop the fight causd Frazier couldn't see that Ali Jab closed his eyes, it's ok Holmes was that dude yaw just need a reality check, ok now stop it

  5. Holmes used the Ali style jab (2nd best jab ever) but just had more sting to it. His jab was powerful than most HW’s power shot

  6. Larry probably has the 3rd hardest jab in all of boxer, probably behind foreman and Liston

  7. Larry Holmes' jab was the best, period, end of story. Other great jabs at heavyweight: George Foreman, Sonny Liston, Riddick Bowe, Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno, Hasim Rahman, Pinklon Thomas, Michael Moorer, and Muhammad Ali.

  8. Ali had the greatest Jab. Holmes is #2. He stole Ali’s style and the student can’t surpass the master
