Unfortunately we all know it's going to be Makar. Even if he falls off. I wish it would go to the best all around defenseman. Not just point totals.
Of course Heiskanen should win the Norris Trophy. He's been the best defenseman in the league for at least the last three years.
Great discussion. I'm not sure what it takes to get Miro on the national hockey mind hive; but I bet a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals would help, for next year's vote.
I do support the idea of having two defensive awards. One for the best Offensive Defender and one for the best Shutdown Defender.
Miro should be a top contender. But as long as the national media is not touting him, I think he will have to match the points of Makar or win a cup to get the award.
We tend to forget that Makar is also an excellent rush defender. Heiskanen also needs to be better at the net-front to truly become the best "defensive" defenseman.
If the Norris Trophy was awarded to the "Best Defenseman", Miro would be at or near the top of the list. As long as points is the determining factor for the Norris, Miro has a huge uphill battle.
no one belongs you earn your hardware. goofy participation trophy logic lol. the hard truth is the only way heiskanen wins a norris is if makar has a down year and hughes gets injured AND heiskanen has a career year.
Miro still seems to get outmuscled too easily along the boards, and he will never be a big goal scoring threat like Makar, Chychrun, or some others. Terrific all-around defenseman even though he will never win a Norris.
The year Miro was nearly a point/game player he finished 7th in the voting.

Miro is such a defensive fear factor for other teams. I decided to track last night’s Sharks game after the fact. On the rush at 5 on 5, the Sharks entered the zone 7 times against Miro and 13 against Esa, and most of those against Miro came in the 3rd period. They wanted to avoid him. They were unable to create a single chance on any of their entries against Miro. Esa gave up one rush chance. Esa gave up 3 rush chances against. Miro’s just that good.
The Norris absolutely belongs to Cale Makar
The Norris trophy is a joke. The minute EK65 won it while being, I think
40 in +/proved that the voters only give a damn about the score. Makar is decent in his own end but without a stud shut down on his left side in Toews Makar would get walked a LOT. Just look at the games where Toews was out and Makar had terrible games defensivelyThe Norris, like all awards, is a joke because it's subjective. who cares about it anyway. just win the Cup!
Are you high?! Ever since he got hurt last year, he's been THE worst player in hockey. Not in NHL, in the entire sport of hockey.
