I think this was a clear win for the Flames. That's maybe because I'm high on Hanifin, I think he will be the best player in the deal. So in my mind, the Flames upgraded on the defence (in the long term) AND got Lindholm as well.
I'd say cicumstances tells me the Flames wins this trade.
Hamilton is an asshole, plain and simple. Ferland can be a great power forward…20 games of the year. Fox isn't going to sign before he becomes a free agent…anywhere. Of all three the flames will miss Ferland the most, and he is invisible 60 games of the year. Hanifin is only going to get better. The Flames DONT need centres, they need right wingers. I think Calgary may have won this deal, but time will tell.
Tbh I understand that dougie Hamilton is a very good dmen but calagary won this trade ferland and fox are both nice but don't have the same value that Noah and Elias have but there both players any team would love nonetheless. Imo douggie although a great dmen can be a little overrated at times he isn't a number dmen like (prime Keith,karlson,doughty, Josi, pietroangelo or hedmen) but he's an excellent second option like Ryan Ellis. While hanifin has a ridiculously high ceiling and is already borderling being elite in this league. Factor in he's only 21 and most dmmen mature and really show how good they can be later than forwards (normally around when their 23-25 and almost in any trade whoever gets hanifin will most likely win. Add lindholm and you now have someone who will be an excellent no. 2 center whos only 23. I wouldn't say Carolina got fleced because the return was good but for what they gave up it won't improve their future.
PS whoever says hanifin is garbage cause he had a -21 +/- rating you need to scratch beyond the surface he was normally a top pairing dmen logging one of the larges toi on a team that let up the least sog this season that rating really just stems from them having garbage goaltending

I think the flames only won this trade because ferland without gaudreau or Monahan he nothing. So it’s basically hamilton for hanifin and lindholm. Why did the flames trade hamilton. Because he was haveing issues in the locker room. So I think this is the right trade for Calgary

FYI…..Dougie has a troubling attitude, especially when The Flames put his brother on waivers. Also, he doesn't care whether he wins and loses. all about the money! Calgary's motto is "always earned, never given".
Clearly, the Flames needed to get rid of him. Hate losing Ferly, but he pouted and all but disappeared when he was taken off of the Johnny and Monny line. Really…just a couple of spoiled brats. Good luck with them. Lindholm's gonna light it up with those two stars. WOOHOO!!!!
Apparently, Hamilton was an issue in the Calgary room. There was a sense from the media who were dealing with the Flames on a day-to-day basis that winning and losing were basically the same to Dougie. Not sure if that's his personality or if he just didn't like Calgary. He apparently also soured after his brother was waived midway through this past season.
Micheal Ferland scored just two goals after the all star break. Interestingly, the same can be said about Lindholm.
So… what the hell is Carolina trying to do? Hanifin and Lindholm have such amazing potential, and they're young. But Dougie Hamilton and Michael Ferland are excellent as well. Adam Fox may or may not be a future top four player. So, if the Hurricanes are trying to win, why are they going to trade Skinner?

I don't know the upside of the players that Calgary got back, but at least they got that big suck Hamilton out of their room. Maybe Carolina will sign Freddie Hamilton so that he will get Dougie out of bed on time to make it to flights on time or practice, but if they don't he'll be a pain in the ass for Carolina too…
I like the trade more for Carolina… I don't see how this is a landslide. Hamilton is an analytical phenom. They get a pretty good prospect in Fox, and a player who can move up and down the lineup in Ferland? Unless Hanifin turns into a legit No. 1 then I say Carolina wins this trade

Carolina won this trade big time. Hamilton is a huge upgrade over Hanifin, even though I'd rather trade Faulk. Lindholm is finally gone! And we get depth and a potential top 4 dman

I don't mind this trade ferland is going to need a deal so it could be a money thing also when ferland played the physical he was awesome and hard to agianest but didn't play like that all the time
