The best cricketer ever, according to Ricky Ponting 🤯

  1. Sir. Garfield Sobers is the best ever. Just imagine what his numbers would have been if he played 166 Test matches (as Kallis did) nstead of only 93.

  2. It's an interesting discussion. He has the stats but I never thought of him as a match winner with the ball and maybe not the bat either. He seemed to me to be more a mega-contributor…

  3. Coming from the goat himself is pretty extraordinary. For me, my fav player will always be Ponting but Kalis is an absolute legend and deserves more praise than he gets

  4. Kallis was outstanding, averaged mid 50s with bat and low 30s with ball. Certainly the best I saw, but Sobers was equally outstanding and could also bowl high test level not just pace but spin also. Also terrific fielder. Literally could do every role in the game with bat or ball at a top level test standard.
Makes it a tough choice for the all time list.

  5. He isn’t talked too much because he was not an attacking cricketer until after 2007.

It’s the same reason that tendulkar post 2004 is not much talked about.

Just compiling runs and stats doesn’t produce memories.

If 400 needs to be chased on last day of a test, most people would not rely on Kallis to do that. He can play anchor while someone else takes control of the chase.

Tendulkar’s dessert storm innings …. no way kallis would have played that.

Lara’s counter attack against Australia while batting with tail and winning the test match …. I don’t picture kallis do that.

He can play anchor role, play long and steady innings. He is a cricket purists dream player and would make any player’s dream test XI team.

But he was too slow for one days, and didn’t play enough innings where he achieved something seemingly impossible. That’s why general public don’t talk about him much.

  6. No doubt he was an excellent player; one of the greatest ever. However, I always say Sobers was the best to have played.

  7. What about Gary Sobers? He would've eaten Kallis for breakfast, especially at a time w/o helmets, bouncer rules, etc.

  8. I have said this for a long time, always a argument/discussion, his record speaks for itself…totally forgotten in a modern media world

  9. Combining both Tests and ODIs
Kallis has 24k runs and 565 wickets.
Sachin has 34k runs and 200wickets. Sachin has 10k more runs than Kallis. Fking 10k!!! Do u even understand how big is 10k runs??? You tell me what is great.
I don't know what is Great.

  10. Its obviously hard for a country to produce one Kallis, but imagine with a country like India – 1.4 billion people – producing 5 or 10 at one time! They'd rule cricket
